Subject: Fire on the Mountian From: darby.h@att.net Date: 16 Aug 99 - 03:40 AM In the Charlie Daniels song The Devil Went Down to Georgia reference is made to a song "Fire on the mountian run boys run" Any body have any info on what song that line referes to? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Fire on the Mountian From: Stoney Date: 16 Aug 99 - 06:21 AM This is an Old Time fiddle tune with many variations. The A and B parts are basically the same meody but played in different keys (usually A and D) Often there is an extra tag of two bars added to one or both parts. The fiddler also has the option of singing from time to time. Fire on the mountain, come here son! Fire on the mountain, run, boy, run! Two little Indians, one old Squaw, Sitting on the banks of the Arkansas etc. It goes at breakneck speed. Thanks for reminding me of this great tune - used to play it but forgot about it - now I'm going to relearn it. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Fire on the Mountian From: Easy Rider Date: 16 Aug 99 - 09:52 AM This is probably not it, but The Grateful Dead did a song, titled "Fire on the Mountain" also. It probably has nothing to do with the old traditional song, but it was a great song with a great beat. Fire on the Mountain is also a combination in the I-Ching. EZR |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Fire on the Mountian From: The Shambles Date: 12 Feb 00 - 04:21 PM It sounds like the same one that I have by the Highwoods String Band. It really moves and is a great tune. Not many notes in it but it sure sounds like there are. Yes I am going to play it again too..... Just a bit slower |
