Hello all,

Mudcat eh? Censorship eh?

I enjoy reading this forum, but personally enjoy it less so when people talk of banning members or removing posts - but then every now and then there's a poster or a post I do think should be banned or removed - and I don't just mean the obvious spam. For me, the personal grudges and old wounds reopened make fascinating reading. I find that the internet somehow makes people very quick to be extremely aggressive and extremely rude - this entertains me both on a base level 'ha ha' way and also in a pseudo-anthropological 'how curious' manner. I guess it's the same as road-rage, in a way - in that, people are in their cars, surrounded by their things so take it personally when people do something which annoys their feelings.

But where should the bans / censorship start / stop? Spam? Thread drift? Insults? Not at all?

If I were to call you all a shower of shites, would the great god Joe Offer be called down to swoop? What if I just singled one person out and called them a shite? What if I implied the great prophet Mohammed's more active followers were bodhran players at the session of life?

Should this thread be banned? Honestly?

Consistency of Moderation is all that is required

Moderate Moderation in all Moderators who are Moderating could be a Mode to mumble about....or not...   :0)

Personally, I feel as though anyone who wades into many of the non-music discussions should have their big boy/girl pants on and be prepared to encounter the spectrum of IQs, attitudes, political views etc that are bound to be represented anywhere where free and open discussion is allowed and encouraged.

I don't, however, think that what Joe or anyone else does is censorship per se. I think the moderators know many of the long-time members here pretty well (in terms of knowing what they are likely to say or how they might react) and I think the moderators do an admirable job of staving off many potential disasters in threads that are, admittedly, volatile to begin with.

In my experience reading here over many years, I have learned that if you don't want a light on, you don't throw the switch. Come into the discussions prepared to perhaps be the only poster of your persuasion, be a human about it, and you're not likely to be bludgeoned to death. Feed trolls or bring intellectual knives to mental gunfights, and God speed you to the bottom of the sea, 'cause that's where you and the discussion are headed for sure.

Regards,

BBS

Boy! Could I have fun replying to this one!!!!!!!
Continuity Jones, I see in your post, that insights into people's behavior, and such, is in your interest.....I like that...somewhat of the 'impartial observer'...and not getting all pissy.

I was going to call you a bunch of the usual caustic inappropriate, often non-applicable names, used by the the usual bunch of politically brain-dead, and spiritual malnourished, just for fun...but instead, I'd just like to say, that your post is refreshing. Joe Offer, though, in my humble opinion, has been pretty fair...even if he has removed, or edited s few of mine. Sometimes, one could see that a little 'dry wit' is not appreciated, especially if you're the butt of it....and sometimes I've bordered on being a little coarse, but all in all, Joe has been fair.

I hope my post didn't disappoint you, if you were looking for a skirmish......we can do that....

Regards,
GfS

Does anyone know what the H stands for in the expletive `Jesus H Christ` (question mark). I don`t want to detract from the thread topic but I`d sure like to know. Thanking you in anticipation of not being told to fuck off.

Yer friend,

Oswald.

I feel much the same way as Continuity Jones, the OP here.

I don't take any of this stuff personally, and am amused by those who do.

Not to imply any criticism of Joe, et. al. ~ their job is not one that I would seek (nor that I would be well-suited for), but they do the job quite well, as far as I can see.

We're not. We're discussing Censorship...er..on...er....

Shhhhh, don't say that else Joe will wake up and go "ROARRRRRRR!" then pick his red phone up, and all the Immoderate Moderators will start going "ZAPZIPZOP!" and WE'll disappear into the ether, with only the merest remnant of a scarlet trail of...

"Discussion of Mudcat is NOT permitted on Mudcat!"

...blowin' in the wind...

The H stands for Harold, as in, "Our Father, who art in heaven, Harold be thy name"

OK How come the thread was closed? Very funny if ironic humor was the intent. I laughed out loud and the folks in my office looked at me strangly.

I rarely drift into this side of the forum. I find much of the postings to be of little value to me but a posting on censorship always will. As I view the only censorship of worth is self censorship. And perhaps censorship driven by good manners.

It's still down below, gn-z... I don't know why it got closed either??? Seems rather benign to me... And as a Follower of Christ, I really didn't mind the Jesus H Christ stuff... Actually, Beeca's last post was purdy funny...

Yeah, maybe someone will explain just why that thread got closed???

Nobody does any censoring here ... to me censoring is this statement
"write that again and I will reach down your miserable throat and pull your filthy heart out through your eye socket"

now that is censoring ... anything else is simple civil discussion

I for one appreciate the censorship on Mudcat.... but of course there are always those who are anti anything that doesn't fit in with what they want... well tough!!!!! The censorship here is necessary.. and if you were on the receiving end of it... perhaps you should look at yourself and your motives........ accept it because it is going to happen.. and accept that the people who do it do it with the best intent. Now shut up and get on with posting!!!!!!

Well...to continue the discussion:

According to the Urban Dictionary:
jesus h christ owns the taco stand down the street. He would like people to stop asking him to cure their blindness. Even though his named is spelled the same as Jesus, Son of God, it pronounced hay-zoos. His middle inital is Hector. His father owns a garage and his mother is a nurse. He has two younger brothers.
"jesus h christ make the best tacos, but he still wont cure my blindness"

OK, Don. It was explained in the last thread that we don't allow threads discussing Mudcat moderation - much of the time, we're not free to give an honest answer, so such threads just end up being havens for animosity. You won't find many forums that allow such threads, and most are far more restrictive than we are.
If you want to discuss Mudcat editing policy, contact, Max, Big Mick, or me privately by personal message or by e-mail. most of it has already been explained in the FAQ.

P.S. This thread is closed. Please don't start another one. If you want to ask questions, ask me privately.
