Hi all,

I've just started a Spotify collaborative playlist called 'Roots track of week'. The idea is that once a week all the Spotify users on here add one track that they've been particularly enjoying of broadly rootsy/folky/wordly relevance - be it British, American, African, Asian, old, new, acoustic or electic. That way we get to share our favourites and discover new music. I've already got a few people joining me, but at least a few more would really get it going.

The only rule is only to add a track every seven days or more (one poster has already got a bit overzealous but I'll let it pass!). That way we don't get overwhelmed straight away and hopefully the song/tune exchange can run and run.

The link is at:
http://open.spotify.com/user/murkeychris/playlist/7uC0yMbv7l8wc90VU4uS50

Just download Spotify if you haven't already and click the link and it should take you there. Find the track you want and drag it over the the playlist title on the left.

Look forward to hearing your recommendations.

Chris

Interesting selection. Thanks Chris. This thread deserves to get a bit more attention.

The pity with Spotify is that it's not accessible from outside Europe. It's a brilliant facility for those of us who can get it.

Thanks McGrath and Will and others on here who contributed.

The good news is that we've had 15 subscribers and a great playlist ranging from rootsy Americana to Iranian pop, English folk and even some strange jazz!

The bad news is that no one has yet added their second track. :( So if the last track you added was seven days or more ago, just add your latest favourite to the same playlist. Let's keep this rolling...

(I may have confused matters by re-adding my first choice of the Caroline Chocolate Drops, I did this because someone had accidentally deleted it from the list and I thought re-adding an old one and also adding a new one would be even more confusing!)

Chris

Hmmmm, signed up (been meaning to for ages) and the first 4 artistes I tried to add a track from weren't listed in the Spotify catalogue!

So I gave up. For now.

The jazz wasn't *that* strange. It just happened to pre-date Gil Scott Heron by about ten years. I've just posted my second track, maybe a bit more accessible.
