This time my quest for flakey and otherwise odd children's songs leads me back to ask about The Itty Bitty Fishes, possibly also know as Down in the Meadow - something about them all swimming over the dam.

As long as I'm here if you know of anything that fits the criteria above, throw that in too, if you would. You've all be both helpful and diverting. Thanks.

K'tildas

Famous recording by late Frankie Howard as "Three Little Fishes", not in Foggy's Novelty Lyrics or on the International Lyrics Server. Nor in my repertoire (sighs of relief all round!).

Down in the meadow in a little fishy pool
Swam three little fishes and a momma fishy too
Swim said the momma fishy, swim if you can
And they swam and they swam right over the dam

Boop, boop, diddin, doddin, waddam choo
Boop, boop, diddin, doddin, waddam choo
Boop, boop, diddin, doddin, waddam choo
And they swam and they swam right over the dam

there's a couple of other verses,

something about meeting a whale, and those three little fishies they turned on their tail.....

Here are the other verses for the fishy song (my kids get me to sing it to them all the time!

"Whoah!" said the mummy fishy "or you'll get lost" but the little biddy fishes didn'y want to be bossed so out of the pool in the meadow they swam, and they swam and they swam right over the dam. Chorus

"Wheee" said the little fishies, "this is such fun" "we'll swim in the sea til' oue days are done" So they swam and they swam and it was a lark, when all of a sudden they met a shark!

"Oh!" said the the little fishies, "look at the whales!" and quick as they could they turned on their tails and back to the pool in the meadow they swam, and they swam and they swam back over the dam. Chorus. Hope that improves the repitoire!!

By the way, do you know the word to " Two little boys had two little toys Each was a wooden horse." ?

This song was popularised by Rolf Harris in the '70's to early '80's.

Thanks. Grace and Peace.

Hi, Ivan, Grace and Peace,

It works better if you start a new request for a different song.. otherwise people don't know you're looking unless they find your request by accident like I did.....

here are some earlier threads

two little boys also has the Billy Connolly Two little boys in blue,

Two little boys includes a great one called Ten little toes+ the tune.

Or if you put "boys" in the filter box and set the date to 2 years.. you'll find others..

Subject: Lyr Add: Over in the Meadow^^

At first, I thought K-tilde was getting the 3 fishies songs mixed up with "Over in the Meadow. I guess not, but it gives me a chance to post the song, which I stole from the Kididdles site. John McCutcheon has a nice recording of theis on his Mail Myself to You (click) album, and there's a sound sample on his Web page.

Over in the Meadow

Traditional
Written By: Olive A. Wadsworth (1800s)
Copyright Unknown

Over in the meadow,
In the sand in the sun
Lived an old mother toadie
And her little toadie one
"Wink!" said the mother;
"I wink!" said the one,
So they winked and they blinked
In the sand in the sun

Over in the meadow,
Where the stream runs blue
Lived an old mother fish
And her little fishes two
"Swim!" said the mother;
"We swim!" said the two,
So they swam and they leaped
Where the stream runs blue

Over in the meadow,
In a hole in a tree
Lived an old mother bluebird
And her little birdies three
"Sing!" said the mother;
"We sing!" said the three
So they sang and were glad
In a hole in the tree

Over in the meadow,
In the reeds on the shore
Lived an old mother muskrat
And her little ratties four
"Dive!" said the mother;
"We dive!" said the four
So they dived and they burrowed
In the reeds on the shore

Over in the meadow,
In a snug beehive
Lived a mother honey bee
And her little bees five
"Buzz!" said the mother;
"We buzz!" said the five
So they buzzed and they hummed
In the snug beehive

Over in the meadow,
In a nest built of sticks
Lived a black mother crow
And her little crows six
"Caw!" said the mother;
"We caw!" said the six
So they cawed and they called
In their nest built of sticks

Over in the meadow,
Where the grass is so even
Lived a gay mother cricket
And her little crickets seven
"Chirp!" said the mother;
"We chirp!" said the seven
So they chirped cheery notes
In the grass soft and even

Over in the meadow,
By the old mossy gate
Lived a brown mother lizard
And her little lizards eight
"Bask!" said the mother;
"We bask!" said the eight
So they basked in the sun
On the old mossy gate

Over in the meadow,
Where the quiet pools shine
Lived a green mother frog
And her little froggies nine
"Croak!" said the mother;
"We croak!" said the nine
So they croaked and they splashed
Where the quiet pools shine

Over in the meadow,
In a sly little den
Lived a gray mother spider
And her little spiders ten
"Spin!" said the mother;
"We spin!" said the ten
So they spun lacy webs
In their sly little den

These exact lyrics are now in the Digital Tradition. -Joe Offer, 2017-
