Subject: Lyr Req: Help needed to find lyrics and singer
From: DriverMciver
Date: 09 Sep 10 - 11:00 AM

I've heard this song on the radio as a kid back in the 70's and now I can't find a trace of it and neither can anyone I know.It was a country sort of song and this is what I can remember. It may not be exact as I'm recalling this from 35+ years ago. Any help would be appreciated.
.
" Jacob lived on a hill by the river on the bend, Jacob was an old man ,Jacob was my friend.
We had hard times growing up but Jacob taught me well as I'd listen to the stories he would tell"

This sounds like a song that is in the repertoire of Don Wysiwyg Thompson.

I am also haunted by this song and can find no trace of it." He lived in a house on the river by the bend, Jacob was an old man Jacob was my friend. I think it was around 1977 0r 1978. It was lovely. Funny how it disappeared entirely.

I've spent over an hour with Mr Google on this one, Joe. Various permutations of phrases inside and outside of quotation marks. Bupkis.

This song was from the late seventies. I would love to hear it again. It was a country and western song.

Don dropped his Mudcat membership in 2013, and he died in 2015. I wish I had had the chance to hear him sing.
Anybody else know this song?

The person singing the known fragment in the above youtube link is the OP for this thread. I thought the melody might help someone else recall the song.

Gee, it's a nice song. Thanks for posting it. I looked and looked and looked again, and still no cigar.
