Subject: 'My Little Girl'- Anybody know it? From: GUEST,Ebbie, housesitting Date: 04 Oct 10 - 10:43 PM A friend left a message on my phone on this song and wondered whether I might know it. NOT the Tim McGraw song, this is a tune foremost in my mind, although it has lyrics. It starts out something like My little girl, I long to hold you (or long to see you) I've heard it mainly as a mandolin tune although my brother (since died) used to sing it. It may be an old song or it may date from post 50s. I've Googled and Cowpied and Ask.commed and I haven't found anything. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance. |

Subject: Lyr Add: MY LITTLE GIRL (Lewis/Dillon/Von Tilzer) From: Gene Date: 04 Oct 10 - 11:49 PM check this link. http://parlorsongs.com/issues/2004-3/thismonth/feature.php My Little Girl Music by Albert Von Tilzer Lyricist: Words by Sam M. Lewis and Will Dillon Published 1915 by Broadway Music Corp. [Verse 1] I write these lines to tell you that I'm sorry I left home, Because I'm all alone, Why did you let me roam. Some one put the jinx on me, I'm up against it strong, I'm out of work and so I wrote a song. The first verse dear is very sweet, because it speaks of you, I'm sending you the chorus, read it thro'. [Chorus] My little girl you know I love you, And I long for you each day, My little girl I'm dreaming of you, Tho' you're many miles away, I see the lane, down in the wildwood, Where you promised to be true. My little girl, I know you're waiting And I'm coming back to you. [Verse 2] The second verse is not complete, I cannot rhyme the part, That goes with aching heart,But I was never smart. You know that the chorus is the part that must be heard, And now I've got a job to rhyme that word. Now if this song should make a hit, I'll marry you in June, And if it don't there'll be no honeymoon. [Repeat Chorus] |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Little Girl From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Jan 11 - 11:30 PM The Internet Archive has a recording of Arthur C. Lichty singing MY LITTLE GIRL on an Edison cylinder from circa 1915. You can also hear an instrumental version by Conway's Band from a 78-rpm record, Victor 35495-A, circa 1915. It's the first tune in a 4-tune medley: (1) MY LITTLE GIRL, (2) PUT ME TO SLEEP WITH AN OLD-FASHIONED MELODY, (3) AT THAT SAN-FRAN-PAN AMERICAN, and (4) HOP A JITNEY WITH ME. These are free downloads in various formats. |
