Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: Little Hawk Date: 16 Jul 13 - 10:55 AM Wow. Amazing! I just realized that this music post from way back in Oct 2010 never got one single answering post from ANYONE! I didn't think that was even possible. I've deliberately tried to launch a few threads here that no one would respond to and it never worked...but this one... What could explain it? It may be a miracle! I should inform the Vatican. Anyway, there it is. If no one responds now either, this thread will remain miraculous, because my additional comments on it don't count, given that I started it. |

Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: Little Hawk Date: 16 Jul 13 - 11:26 AM Right! So...anyone like the song? |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: Phil Cooper Date: 16 Jul 13 - 11:40 AM I've put threads out before where no one responded. |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 16 Jul 13 - 12:39 PM The song is fine, but I love my Voyage Air guitar even more :0) |

Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: Midchuck Date: 16 Jul 13 - 03:21 PM I'm pleased with mine. It isn't the best I have, but it would be one of the best guitar values I have, dollar for dollar, even if it didn't have the folding up feature. P. |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: GUEST,bankley Date: 16 Jul 13 - 03:42 PM I like Bresh. Great picker. Good man. Sent him a copy of 'Thunder Thieves' a few years ago, which he dug, also a rare copy of Mose Rager playing at the kitchen table. Mose was a huge influence on Tom's dad's picking. Merle used to follow Mose and Ike Everly around,to the dances and jams in Western Kentucky. There's a lick on the tape that Mose attributes to Kennedy Jones, which everyone thinks Travis came up with on Cannonball Rag. I love those Kentucky thumbpickers, and had the privilege of going to a Mose Rager appreciation day in Drakesboro in Mulhenburg Country, in a firehall/community center, pop: maybe 300 ? Eddie Pennington and Paul Yandell were there. Some serious archtop performance. There's a monument across the street (which is named Mose Rager Blvd), right near Chet Atkins Ave. dedicated to Mose, Merle, Chet and Ike. This all happened cuz I hooked up with JT Oglesby here on Mudcat a few years ago, and I had gas money ! Anyway JT used to hang out at Rager's house, as did Travis, Atkins, Lenny Breau and Jerry Reed to name a few. Credit where it's due. I've been working on an instrumental called 'Drakesboro Rake' for 3 yrs. now. It's about ready to record. I'll make sure Mr. Tom gets a copy. Thanks LH. A subject close to my heart and fingers |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 16 Jul 13 - 04:32 PM I missed this the first time around and glad that it came back. Bresh is a master musician and a lot of fun to see in person. I've had plenty of posts that never got a response, but would think the name Bresh would stir some interest. Nice to find other links to Bresh videos upon visit to youtube. |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: DebC Date: 16 Jul 13 - 04:56 PM According to Harvey Leach, who invented the Voyage-Air, it was Thom Bresh that discovered that one did not have to loosen the strings to fold the guitar. He was demonstrating one of the proto-types a few years ago and began to unscrew the bolt in the back. Harvey does not panic, but did say to Thom, "Er..um..you DO KNOW that you need to loosen the strings?" And Thom said, "Really? I never loosen the strings." And he proceeded to unfold the guitar while everyone watching prepared for the guitar to explode. The guitar stayed intact and Thom said, "See it's okay. And it's still in tune." Harvey said it blew everyone away. Deb Cowan |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: Little Hawk Date: 16 Jul 13 - 06:56 PM Yeah, pretty cool. If I had a lot of air travel in mind, I might get one. |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 17 Jul 13 - 02:11 AM Air travel - that's precisely why I got mine, LH. Got sick of the airlines "misplacing' my guitar, and having it show up when the gig was over. Now with the Voyage-Air in its backpack case, it goes right in the overhead bin, so it arrives at the gig with me. However, sometimes, my luggage, clothes, merch, etc., doesn't always get there... |

Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 17 Jul 13 - 12:56 PM I thought this would be a video of a guy playing 'air guitar,' so I paid no attention. Now I see it's an actual musician. I'm impressed with his playing, but I can't understand any lyrics. Or did he really say that he'd scuba'd in his socks? Thanks for the link, anyway. Tom B really knows his way up and down the guitar neck. |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 18 Jul 13 - 01:27 AM Leeneia - he ought to, it's genetic. He's Merle Travis's wee boy. |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: GUEST Date: 18 Jul 13 - 02:12 AM Anybody know about that double neck guitar he plays??? |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: GUEST,bankley Date: 18 Jul 13 - 08:17 AM "Super Dualette" ? back-to-back necks. Steel strings on one and nylon on the other. Built by luthier Del Langejans from Michigan. JT has a regular 6 string Langejans. Pricey but high quality |
Subject: RE: Thom Bresh plays his Voyage-Air Guitar From: Mark Clark Date: 18 Jul 13 - 10:53 AM Nice. Thanks, Little Hawk, I missed this the first time around too. The tune Bresh is playing for the instrumental break is Merle's Saturday Night Shuffle. Great tune. |
