I have been a Bruce Cockburn fan for a long time, and had never been able to find a chord cheat sheet for The Rose Above the Sky, which is one of my favorite songs of his.
Here
is a link to a Youtube audio of the song.

Anyway, in case anyone would like the information, here is my interpretation...

The Rose Above the Sky

(D)Something jewelled slips (C]away
(D)Round the next bend with a [C)splash
(D)Laughing at the hands I hold (C]out
(D)Only air within their (C]grasp
(Em)All you can do is praise the (A)razor
(Em)For the fineness of the (D)slash

'Til the Rose above the (C)sky
(G)Opens(D)
And the light behind the (C)sun
Takes (G)all(D)

Gutless arrogance and rage
Burn apart the best of tries
You carry the weight of inherited sorrow
From your first day till you die
Toward that hilltop where the road
Forever becomes one with the sky

'Til the Rose above the sky
Opens
And the light behind the sun
Takes all

Ozone on the midnight wind
Got me thinking of the sea
And the mercies of the currents that brought
Me to you and you to me
And in the silence at the heart of things
Where all true meetings come to be

I see the Rose above the sky
Open
And the light behind the sun
Takes all

I'd change it slightly:

The Rose Above the Sky

(D)Something jewelled slips (C9]away
(D)Round the next bend with a [C9)splash
(D)Laughing at the hands I hold (C9]out
(D)Only air within their (C9]grasp
(Em)All you can do is praise the (Am)razor
(Em)For the fineness of the (D)slash

'Til the Rose above the (Am)sky (C9)
(G)Opens(D)
And the light behind the (Am)sun (C9)
Takes (G)all(D)

Hi Tim

Yes, interesting changes!
I still hear the C major in Cockburn's version, but really like the C9. The line that goes
(Em)All you can do is praise the (Am)razor
sounds less like an A on re-listening, but I hear something more like an Asus than Am. The Chorus we are in full agreement on. Thanks for the modifications!

Ernie

Ernie, it's years since I've played it, and I was posting my chords from memory. You may well be right about the C. I think that A minor may actually be an A minor 7.

T.

Are you in standard tuning? This is a finger picking song right?
Sorry for these stupid questions, I'm a beginner, but I really want to learn this song.
