A new session started last night (Thursday) at the recently re-opened Cross Keys in Lower Bridge Street, Chester. It's a good venue, comfortable and acoustic-friendly. I've called it a session because that's what Ian, Frank & Mo call it, and it's certainly quiet enough at the moment for the finger-pickers and quiet singers.

No car park, but there's on street parking outside. The landlords are friendly and on site.

This isn't my project, but I'll pass on and answer and comments.

When we were discussing MFI's new sesh at the Cross Keys, they intimated it'd be a monthly event,is that the case?

As far as I know the session is planned as a weekly one - at all events, we're meeting there again next Thursday. I'll speak to Ian as soon as possible and clarify what's planned.

Last night, following further consultation & discussion with the pub management, the agreed outcome was that from January 2011, the session will be a fortnightly one & will take place on the 1st & 3rd FRIDAYS of the month.

We do mostly songs 1st & 3rd and mostly tunes 2nd & 4th. i know it seems odd but I think it suits two overlapping groups of people

Best of luck

No Les, there's not been a regular J's A for many's the long year, in fact its a bit of a desert round here on Saturdays.

The only Saturday sesh within striking distance of Chester is the Middlewich Boar's Head one, which is on the 2nd Sat of the month.

I have linked to this thread from the Canal Accessible Folk Events 2011 thread, assuming that most of the Chester sessions would be close enough to the canal. Could someone please enlighten me and tell me if any are further away than, say, a 30 min walk. Thanks.

Mr Happy's is the furthest away from the Shropshire Union at probably just under 30 minutes.
