Does anyone have the lyrics to Australia as sung by Uffa Fox and more recently by John Kirkpatrick. Not South Australia

I have just realised that Andy is signed in on my laptop and I can't be arsed to change it!!

Jillie aka Eye Lander.

Do you mean the transportation ballad Australia as sung by Bob Hart and Cyril Poacher? But I can't find it in my John Kirkpatrick discography; at least not with this title. On Song Links his sings the transportation ballad The Convict's Lamentation, though.

Might be this one Jilly. Originally about transportation to Virginia, but subsequently updated when Australia became the destination.

Jillie, do you remember a few lines or phrases from the song? Titles can be confusing, but a few lines or phrases would help us know we've found the right song.

Jillie Here again.

Andy has the LP (those flat black things) and has tranfered it to cd but there are one or 2 words thatI can't get.

Reinhard: I think John Kirkpatrick is putting on his next cd, he sang it at concert on the IOW a couple of weeks ago.

It starts:
Heave away, and don't you make a noise for we're bound for Australia

Australia me lads is a mighty fine place, Heave away, Heave away,
And to go there me lads is a ……………….

Heave a away my bonny bonny boys Heave away, Heave away,
Heave away, and don't you make a noise for we're bound for Australia
Heave a away my bonny bonny boys Heave away, Heave away,
Heave away, and don't you make a noise for we're bound for Australia

Mid rain and hail and wind and snow Heave away, Heave away,
For ……..must go we're bound for Australia

Heave a away my bonny bonny boys Heave away, Heave away,
Heave away, and don't you make a noise for we're bound for Australia
Heave a away my bonny bonny boys Heave away, Heave away,
Heave away, and don't you make a noise for we're bound for Australia

There was the Spike Milligan one which ran something like:-

We think of you each morning
And in the evening too,
We even wake up at midnight
So that we can think of you
Australia....

Jillie, that is definitely not the transportation Ballad I mentioned above. I'm looking forward to John K.'s next CD and hope it will be on it.

I did a Google search for a few phrases of your lyrics and found this verse in Maurice R. Cloughley: A World to the West, leading into Chapter XIV, The Coral Coast:

Australia, me lads, is a mighty fine place
Heave away, heave away,
And to go there me lads is no disgrace
We're bound for Australia

Cheers Reinhard, I only hope it is on his next cd, but I am sure he said it would be.

Jillie on Miskin Man's cookie!
