Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Barbara Date: 04 Sep 99 - 11:20 AM You closed with "The Singer's Lament" or "Dark, the night, and long till day..." and you cleverly held the CD right up to the camera where it became "dark, the CD..." I could read the "Now playing post-it just fine, but not the rest. So, whose recording was that? Great job, guys, always nice to be on the cutting edge of technology. Will the video be live too, in the future? I comes thru fine on my RealPlayer, tho as a jerky series of stills... my modem's only 28.8 so guess if I want to see you move, I've got to upgrade. Thanks. Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Art Thieme Date: 04 Sep 99 - 12:13 AM Sounded just fine. An auspicious beginning. Your songs were great guys. Will even listen next week!!! Thanks so much. Art |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Bert Date: 03 Sep 99 - 10:22 AM Thanks for your kind thoughts everyone. Kat, When are you going to sing your Grandpaw's song for us? (BTW shouldn't that be far-ghucking?) Alan, Next week we hope to have things working live so you can call in and correct our pronunciation. Bert. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Alan of Australia Date: 03 Sep 99 - 09:56 AM G'day Max & Bert, Congratulations. I enjoyed the archive - it was FANTASTIC. Terrific voices, interesting interview, creative pronunciation of Aussie place names, great music. Thanks for all the hard work.
Cheers, |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Sourdough Date: 02 Sep 99 - 07:03 AM I loved the program. Thank you guys. I know I could have waited until tomorrow but I wanted to hear the program. ("Seeing" the program was a lagniappe.) I have produced radio and television and I know that even what seems to be the simplest production is often overtaken by the tyranny of technology. *You* prevailed. Just for that, you get an extra twenty points. I had the very pleasant experience of playing along with much of th emusic. I really enjoyed Bert's "Size Doesn't Matter". By the third chorus, I felt I owned the song. I might have woken my wife because I was getting a little carried away - it is a fine chorus. I wish Sandy and Caroline had been on long enough to talk about the pleasures of collecting. I often fantasized what it would be like to discover a song and then, listening to some of the Library of Congress recordings I wondered if I would recognize a treasure. Most songs, it seems to me, don't present themselves all smoothed out. I would think you have to develop a sense of what a song could sound like as well as the very necessary appreciation for what the song is. I would like very much to hear what the Warners had to say about that, too. As a part of my work, over the past ten years or more, I have done a lot of oral history recordings and have met a variety of people. By my standards, many of these people are close-minded and wrong-headed about what I think are important life topics but there are other parts of these same people that are warm, charming and caring. I have always had trouble integrating my real affection for these people with my disappointment about their close-mindedness. It sounds as though a number of people around Mudcat have dealt with this problem in collecting songs. Maybe I should start a thread. Anyway, thanks for the program and I was astonished at the quality of the sound. Sourdough |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Sourdough Date: 02 Sep 99 - 05:50 AM I logged on at 5:45EDT and you are coming through fine. Now I am gong to go back and listen. Sourdough |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Lonesome EJ Date: 01 Sep 99 - 11:46 PM Listening to the archive right now- thanks Max and Bert for remembering to push "record" when you did! Enjoyed the interview with the Patons- you gotta watch out for those Late Forties(just ask Catspaw)! Once again, thanks for expanding the Mudcat experience for all of us. LEJ |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 Sep 99 - 11:39 PM I am amazed by it all as well. I also enjoyed the archive. I don't know if Bill took Max's advice and went to bed or whether he is still up but it is about 4:40am in the UK and although somedays I stay up later, I am starting to feel a little bit tired now. Being unemployed and enjoying the internet seems to have turned my sleeping habits upside down - I'll probably sleep until about 12pm now. Jon |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: katlaughing Date: 01 Sep 99 - 11:04 PM Max, Bert & Howie: Just got done listening to the archive. It is far-phucking out!! You did good, guys! I loved the video; so neat to see where the Muducat actually "lives" and to put voices with the faces. Thank you, thank you. Max Headroom eat your heart out....the Mudder's in town!!! Bert, thanks for mentioning my granddad's poem, Home Range. Your song was hilarious and well-done. I'd love to hear more of yours. Max, you are a great bluesman. Love your voice. Sandy and Caroline...you sound just as kind and dear and full of folk-wisdom/stories as I've some to know through Sandy's postings. The little bird must've been precious and an otter in your pond? What magic your music must weave. I am sure your place is like heaven, blessed by the Green Man. I am just sitting here in amazement at the Mudcat, you guys, all the Mudders and the wonderment we call the WWW. Wondering how in the world we all got along before knowing each other through this incredible medium. Maybe someday, we can set it up for live feeds from around the world and see various bunches of us, on the show, singing and playing our hearts out. I've a great broadcast engineer who'll help out. Thank the gawds and gawdesses. It was wonderful! katlaughing |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Margo Date: 01 Sep 99 - 10:02 PM Tears in my eyes, I couldn't even log on. Mudcat wouldn't come up. I still don't know how I was supposed to have gotten the show; we have real audio, but where to connect to the radio station? Was there a link?
And lastly, can I get a recording? Or will there be a replay? BooHoo, Margarita |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Allan C. Date: 01 Sep 99 - 10:02 PM Would have loved to phone in. But somehow missed the thread in which the number was posted. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Max Date: 01 Sep 99 - 10:01 PM Sandy, I think it shows in the archive that you both were marvelous. I had fun and am very happy with what we had going on. Thank you both for once again experimenting with us here at the Mudcat. I promise that once we get every bug exterminated that we will do this again when your well rested. Thanks again Sandy and Caroline. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: katlaughing Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:59 PM Thanks, Bert, Max, Mike, et alia! I am listening to the archive right now. It is great and clear!! You guys are fast and GOOD! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Sandy Paton Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:58 PM Well, I warned you all that I was a cyber-klutz. Looks as if Caroline and I blew the fuse at Max's place. Ah, well, we weren't any good, anyway. My mind was functioning at about half-speed, or less, and I had real trouble hearing Bert and Max. Those two quick cups of coffee before 7 p.m. didn't help at all. Guess they didn't have time to kick in. What the heck, CIUT seems to have trouble, too. Sandy |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Jeri Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:31 PM The help forum was inaccessible as well. (I only mention this because for some reason, I believed it was on a different server, but what do I know.) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Tony Burns Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:24 PM For what it's worth -- I got on to RealAudio and into the chat just before 7:00. Even managed to send and receive a couple of chat messages. (Could not connect via mIRC at all). Shortly after 7:00 the RealAudio video changed from a 'static' picture of Art's CD cover to some jerky video and then I lost the connection. Chat kept accepting input but did not echo it back. I shut down Netscape but when I tried to restart it the window never appeared. I shutdown Windoze and restarted the computer. Re-established communications but could not contact any Mudcat site. (Netscape told me the server was down or not responding). Gave up about 8:00 and just came back now. Better luck next week. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Bert Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:22 PM The archive can be found here Also go thru' the Mudcat Radio link in the quicklinks dropdown Bert. |

They have a couple of phone calls coming in at this moment, Mike, the super genious who actually understands some of the technical stuff about the 'Cat. And Jen was on the line as well. Pretty neat. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: John Hindsill Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:05 PM Watched the last half hour of the pre-show, listening to Art's CD (Terrific!). It came in loud and clear. A couple after 4pm (pdt) a finger (Max's?) pointed out...suddenly...net congestion. Gone was the program; I then tried in vain for over 1/2 hr to get either the broadcast or the homepage, both in vain. Tried again about 5:15 to get to the discussion forum, but still couldn't get through. Max, I trust the show went well for those who could get it; I'll look for the archived edition. Normally, I would not have had the opportunity to listen live, but a short hospital stay, and recupe at home gave me a missed opportunity.---John |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Jeri Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:04 PM Kat, I dunno about the chat rm. I had the same problem, went out and entered again and everything was fine. It says two Tonys are in there now, but neither one is talking. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Bert Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:03 PM we're about to go live again to see if we can figure out what happened. We lost the start of our archive so this will be the intro. Tune in now Bert. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Alan of Australia Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:03 PM G'day, Glad yer back. I was listening to Art's CD until about a minute into "Master of the Sheepfold" shortly after 7pm your time. Then nothing, no Mudcat, end of world, until now.
Cheers, |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Jen Date: 01 Sep 99 - 09:02 PM The chat doesn't seem to work on my computer. Ah well. I tried! Maybe next time! At least the site is back up and running well. Jen |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: katlaughing Date: 01 Sep 99 - 08:56 PM Same here. I had it up and was listening to Art's CD, then I kept getting a 'disconnected from the server"; then the whole site went down. I hope you were able to record it so we can hear the archive. What's the deal with the Chat? I was just in there. It told me Tony was there and I saw the Say & Do boxes, typed in words and hit enter, but nothing happened, no words, reply. NOT complaining, JUST reporting. Whatever you do, whenever is GREAT!! Mud is thicker than water! Thanks, Kat |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio - Episode I Wed. Night From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 Sep 99 - 08:54 PM Well I got there all keen and ready for the start but my Real Player didn't like the format so I downloaded and installed the Real Player G2. When I had installed this and tried to get back to have another attempt at listneng, I couldn't get into any of Mudcat - Bandwith problems? - Maybe it was more popular than expected. Anyway, I hope it went well for those involved and those that did manage to connect. Jon |
