Subject: Martin signal horn? From: Big Ballad Singer Date: 07 Nov 10 - 09:06 AM I believe it's called a schalmei. Hitler had many of his people use them, especially the Youth brigades, as signal horns. I'd love to get my hands on one. Anyone ever see one for sale over there in the UK? Rather rare birds over here. Thanks! |

Subject: RE: Martin signal horn? From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 07 Nov 10 - 01:33 PM The Martinstrompete is an instrument associated with the Labour movement and football fans. It is very easy to play, the principle resembling the harmonicas. The name Schalmei is historical for a double-reed instrument. Thus both names are deceptive, borrowing prestige. The Nazis did not like the instrument, as far as I know. Their youths had to learn a genuine longish bugle called Fanfare. Both instruments are still in use and can be ordered easily in many countries. |
