From: GUEST

In Mountain View this past weekend and heard a song with BEAUTIFUL HARMONY! The Song of The Wildwood is what they said it was called and it is very old. The only thing I can find is Mac Wisemwan did it on a cd in a 6 box set.

I have the Mp3 where I recorded a little of it.
Here are some of the lyrics.... (I think)

The river IS flowing when the first spring WINDS BLOW
And the flowers are blooming by the ....

(flowers are blooming next to something, can't tell where, so close and yet so far...., I wanted to say "window" but not quite that either, help someone!! Those two words should be obvious..."by the wil--?? it's ??)

you know there are mountains she lies there asleep
and the song of the wildwood keeps calling to me

there's a song for the sailor a long way from home
there's a song for the drifter LOST AND ALONE

you know THAT THE mountains she lies there asleep
and the song of the wildwood keeps calling to me

and the song of the wildwood keeps calling to me

Allmusic.com says SONG OF THE WILDWOOD, recorded by Mac Wiseman, appears on "On Susan's Floor" (Bear Family, 2006).

Worldcat.org says that The Bluegrass Alliance recorded SONG OF THE WILDWOOD on an LP album "Love of the Mountains" (1982).

The US Copyright Office says copyright for SONG OF THE WILDWOOD was claimed by Bob McDill in 1972.

Another song (apparently) called SONG OF THE WILDWOOD was copyrighted in 1933 by Hannah Tremper.

That's all I was able to find.

It was deep in December, when the time came to go
And we boarded the windows, in the new fallen snow
And we left Oklahoma, and all that we owned
With the Song of the Wildwood, and a lifetime to go

We crossed Arizona, to the north country pine
Where the rivers are frozen, on the Oregon line
She was hardly a woman, scarcely half grown
And the wind in the wildwood chills to the bone

Now the river is falling, as the first spring winds blow
And the flowers are blooming, by the wilderness road
Below that dark mountain, she lies there asleep
And the song of the wildwood, keeps calling to me

There's a song for the sailor, so far from home
There's a song for the drifter, so lost and alone
Below that dark mountain, she lies there asleep
And the song of the wildwood, keeps calling to me
