Hey, folks...here's me and my friend Jack Nicole playing in Barrie at Open Folk on last Sunday. I'm doing my song "Lone and Lonesome Stranger", loosely adapted from the trad song "Wayfaring Stranger", all new lyrics. I wrote it in the 90s as a reaction to the wars in the former Yugoslavia. The video shows the last 2 verses of the song. Jack plays lead, I play rythm on the Martin HD-28 and the usual harmonica. Audio and video recording was done by Doc Higgins.

Lone and Lonesome Stranger

LOL! Well....yeah...y' know, Bobert, there's a lot of grey coming in, but I shouldn't complain, should I? Man, I wish I could snap my fingers and be (physically) about 30 years old again. I would go looking for Winona. If only I had Chongo's longevity...he tells me he was born around 1920, and he still doesn't look a day over 40.

Ya done real good, L.H.. Is that really a whole "gun belt" full of harmonicas? I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that before.

That's the famous harmonica pouch, frogprince, the only one like it in the world. I call it the "Pineridge Girl", after Buffy Sainte-Marie. It holds the 8 keys of harmonica that I usually need for the stuff I play (A,B,C,D,E,F,G, and Bb). I drew up the design for it back in the 70s, went to the local shoe repair guy, and had him do me up the pouch, using a harmonica to model the size of each pouchslot. It's a great stage accessory, because it keeps the keys in proper order and right where I need them for a quick change.

The original one finally fell apart some time in the mid-90s, so I had another made at that time, and it's still going strong.

Yeah, the decor is really nice at Doc's place. ;-D Looks great on video, doesn't it? The only thing that is really lacking is little Japanese women serving tea. I'll have to talk to him about that.

Word on the street, LH, is that you stick a little stash in that pouch so when yer inhalin' on the harp yer actually gettin' buzzed??? I mean, I tolt 'um all that you ain't like that but they said "Eou-laa-laa"... I donno myself what you keep in yer pouch...Might just be some mojo rocks 'er some seeds... Might be a spoonfull, tho...

I jus' thought you'd like to know whatz on the street in case you was plannin' on runnin' for some political office... Don't want no funky stuff hangin' over yer head, do ya'???

Me??? I'd kinda not be talkin' about yer pouch too much...

BTW, nice song... If you ever get down to the US o' A we gotta get together and play a little music... I got me a pouch, too...

B~

Heh! No weed has ever sullied my harmonica pouch, Bobert. And where is this damn "street" you keep talkin' about? Naw...I am gonna leave the politicing to Chongo, cos he has a skin like a rhino and he can take it.

I'd love to play a few tunes with you. C'mon up to the Great White North sometime and we'll do that.

Thanks, Kat. ;-)

You think? That had never occurred to me. I did go to a Dylan show in Toronto a few years ago, and after the show I was standing around in my leather jacket waiting for a friend and a couple of young folks came over to me and said, "Can we get our friend to photograph us with you, Mr Dylan?"

I graciously assented. ;-D I think they were joking around, but it was hard to be sure about it.
