Subject: Lyr Req: On The Road to Anywhere (Nowhere) From: Graham_Pirt Date: 18 Nov 10 - 07:03 PM This was a song sung by the Jarrow Marchers. I did have a copy of the sheet music many years ago but lost it. Anyone have the lyrics please? |

I've now found it was answered by Bainbo 4 years later! Thanks - even if it did take a long time - it was worth the wait |

I thought it was a great song, from the first time I heard it, but didn't know of anyone else who knew it. Not being particulary musical, I haven't been able to do a great deal to spread it around. I'm so relieved it exists somewhere other than in my own head! Incidentally, I didn't know of the Jarrow March connection. I first heard the song on a 78rpm record my grandad would have bought in Lancashire, probably in the 1920s, so that would tally with it being popular at the time of the march. Fate being what it is, I later moved away - and now live not too far from Jarrow. Small world, isn't it? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: On The Road to Anywhere (Nowhere) From: GUEST,Kiwigirl Date: 29 Nov 10 - 01:42 AM My Dad used to sing the chorus of this song whenever we went anywhere in the car (this in the 1960's). It's stayed with me all these years. Today I decided to google the words and came to Bainbo's lyrics. I too am very happy it exists somewhere else other than just in my head. I had got to thinking that maybe it was something Dad and his fellow soldiers had made up during WW2 as he only used to sing the chorus. |
