Saltaire, Victoria Hall, Bradford web site says that the Frost & Fire tour has been cancelled. None of the other venues mention it as far as I can see.

Anybody know if this is so before I delete that performance and the Halifax Square Chapel appearance from my radio show diary which I'm trying to record tonight?

If nobody knows I'll check with Alan Bearman in the morning.

This is undoudtedly because Norma is still in hospital in Warrington - she was admitted during the Gift tour, the last couple of gigs of which were cancelled as a result.

I wasn't sure if some gigs were still on in limited form because of conflicting information on a few sites, but I managed to get through to the Square Chapel tonight and they confirmed that the whole tour was cancelled as of yesterday.

A shame for us but let's hope that Norma gets well soon and Eliza gives birth without incident.

As mentioned in another thread the new addition to the Carthy family has arrived safely. And by the way, hoorah for a radio programme producer who actually checks details of a venue to see that all is well. At the theatre where I work we have recently been fielding shoals of calls about a concert being given locally in mid-December by the fantastic choir The Sixteen. The concert has been sold out since late October, but Classic FM announced it as something to do at Christmas a week ago (and the Sunday Times had included it in its roundup of Christmassy treats the week before). It's always a sad thing to have to inform really enthusiastic people that something they've only just heard about had been sold out for weeks !!

Alan Bearman's website has no mention of cancellations at the moment but I think it's clear that a combination of the birth of Eliza's daughter and Norma's ill health have made these shows impossible to complete. I understand that Eliza was already due to miss some, if not all, of them anyway and with Norma unavailable and Saul Rose having ceased gigging with Waterson:Carthy earlier in the year they would have essentially ended up being Martin Carthy solo gigs.

On the subject of Norma's health, Eliza's most recent tweet on 25 November (the day before she gave birth) reads "mam having a tracheotomy today.she should be in IC for another week and a bit,all being well.it won't affect her singing apparently.phew."

Let's hope everything went well.
Kev
