Not actually being a guitar player, I found this TV episode which was on as 'wallpaper' ROFL standard - The 'teacher' was self taught, and knows nothing about 'Real Music Theory', so just made up their own system based on an interesting method of "If you want to learn to play Guitar, then don't touch one!"

Which got me to wondering about self taught 'Folk Musicians"....

"I don't know the real names for the chords, so I made up names such as"

Bear Claw
Turkey Leg
Old Lady
Dragon
Iceberg "(G# - G#! You have been studying Real Names of chords!)"

So can you recognize the chord positions from those names?

And have you any other good names, or stories...

Well when learning I had a few choice names for the "F" chord but they were not for polite company.

Bernard Wrigley occasionally plays a tune which he officially calls "Shuffle in F."

Although he more commonly calls it "The F in Shuffle."

Bear Claw might be a B7.

Aminor only to be played by small children.
C diminished must be something to do with global warming.

Sounds like a Tai Chi approach

OK - a few visual hints may help.

The first 2 looked like the names.

Number 3 had 2 fingers poked out like the little 'walking man' game...

The others were never shown, just mentioned, and the last of course was part of the joke of the student wanting to read 'real music books' and break away from the radical (based on ignorant self discovery!) teaching method...
:-)

I couldn't understand what people tried to teach me re Capop positions, so I just think of frett 1 as first gear, fret 2 second gear and soon, I'm currently learning a Johnny Cash Song in 5th gear ;)
