I started a thread with a similar title for 2010 and I hope the contributions from Mudcatters helped others as well as myself. I have updated the folk festival information for 2011 as follows :

Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival Friday 17th - Sunday 19th June 11
http://www.midfest.org/

Lymm Festival (Bridgewater Canal) from June 23rd to July 3rd
http://www.lymmfestival.org.uk/

Bromsgrove Folk Festival July 8th, 9th & 10th 2011
http://www.bromsgrovefolkclub.co.uk/festival2011.html

Warwick Festival 29-31 July 2011
http://www.warwickfolkfestival.co.uk/localinfo.shtml

Fairport's Cropredy Convention 11-13 August 2011
http://www.fairportconvention.com/

Wallingford Bunkfest Friday Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th September 2011
http://www.bunkfest.co.uk/

Banbury Festival 7th - 9th October 2011
http://www.banburyfolkfestival.co.uk/

If anyone knows of folk related events, regular or one-offs, which can be accessed on foot from a moored up canal boat please let me know and I'll add them to this list.

Ian

"Moira Furnace Folk Festival - not sure what canal it is but it runs right through the site - August 19th-21st"

As I research this from a distance, and may therefore not be correct, the Moira Furnace Folk Festival takes place beside part of the Ashby Canal. Unfortunately this newly restored section will need to be connected to the rest of the canal network before I can visit it on my boat. Somebody, please tell me I'm wrong!

Beverley festival in June. The Beverley Beck is a canal that runs from the River Hull into the town and ends within a few hundred yards of the festival campsite.

I'm going to assume that most of these Sessions in Chester will be pretty close to the canal which gets very close to the town centre. Hope the clicky to another thread works!

Skipton Folk Club meets every Monday in the town centre at the Narrowboat Inn, whch as you may imagine is close to the canal (near the junction of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the Springs Branch). We always like to welcome visiting boaters. See http://www.skiptonfolkclub.co.uk/

Arthur Wakefield's Folk Club in Bollington, Cheshire is near the Macclesfield Canal at the Dog and Partridge every Friday - see http://www.whitenancy.freeserve.co.uk/

Sale Folk Club is only a few minutes walk from the Bridgwater Canal - http://www.salefolkclub.co.uk/index.html

Quite right - the section of canal at Moira is not connected to the system and so this festival is not accessible by boat.

You just can't get closer to the venues!

Somers TFC near Diglis Basin Worcester every Fri.

Woodman FC Kingswinford in the Marina Fri

Oxford FC Fri

Bath FC close to the canal. Various dates and they have a Festival

In fact in my area you can surf to geographical (found here) filter - choose a town you know has a canal/river and find things within 20 (plus 20) Km radius or better still notch the area down to 10km (6 miles). You can even guess at some (not all) alt week data by clicking the right buttons. Grid refs, Post codes and Multimap all available.

Let me know how it works for you.

TIA

Mr Red's listings and geographical filter are certainly comprehensive. I found it a little confusing at first but got it working after a little experimentation. A very useful resources. Thanks. I'll give it another try when I have more time.
