Subject: What is the capacity of your wassail bow From: *#1 PEASANT* Date: 09 Jan 11 - 07:42 PM first post did not seem to work trying again! What is the capacity of your wassail bowl. Ours is from Maryland State surplus steam table- maybe from a ship. It is the middle one of the set at about 5-10 maybe more us gallons. I have to check the measurement. Meanwhile check your capacity and post here! It is suspended under a tripod over the fire.... Conrad |

Subject: RE: What is the capacity of your wassail bow From: Old Vermin Date: 10 Jan 11 - 07:13 AM Drank from Pilgrim's last week..... Perhaps half-a-gallon or so. Gallon - eight UK Imperial pints, pint - 20 fluid ounces, but half-a-gallon is a magnitude rather than a precise measure. |
Subject: RE: What is the capacity of your wassail bow From: *#1 PEASANT* Date: 10 Jan 11 - 08:12 AM Must go out and get an official measure on mine but it is cold and windy. Then their is the mire then the cold stone......and @$#$@$!# Im not some daily beggar you know and the maid with the white smock and pin is giving me a very hard time as it is that time of the month. To top it off the butler tried to give out a bowl of the small and is in hospital.....so it goes. And someone let fill pail out into the ornamental garden and its not pails of milk she is fillen nor mince pies that she is leaving! Talk about watering the trees before too long....well having just got up I am headed to the inside out house- Good morn to you all! Conrad |

Subject: RE: What is the capacity of your wassail bow From: Cats Date: 11 Jan 11 - 06:20 AM We use a chalice at the moment but the wood is drying out ready to have a new one carved for the village. It is to be made from a triple root of a cherry tree so will be very big and should be beautifully marked. Another 2 years.... |

Subject: RE: What is the capacity of your wassail bow From: ClaireBear Date: 11 Jan 11 - 06:53 PM Ours is a 15-inch maple bowl. Seems to be it holds about 3 bottles of sherry, a six-pack of beer, a dozen eggs (with whites beaten stiff), a cup or two of brandy, and a couple of cups of spiced simple syrup, but I'd have to consult the recipe to be sure. The ingredients JUST fit without spilling over, as if we'd planned it that way. |
