Subject: ADD: A-Mining We Will Go From: GUEST,Canow Kernow Date: 15 Jan 11 - 11:42 AM A-MINING WE WILL GO
The farmers go around
A-mining we will go With picks and shovels in our hands A-mining we will go We all worked at Wheal Busy And when the bal was scat We all lived in the engine-house And made the best of that Last Monday was Feast Monday We had a bit to spare We took the maidens to the fair And now we've nought to lend We had a sturt that Monday And ordered mutton stew Paid landlord Jan for nine months' beer And that was overdue And when we're up we're up And when we're down we're down And when we're only halfway up We're neither up nor down Tune: Grand Old Duke of York |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: a mining we will go From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Jan 11 - 05:29 PM Hmmm. Are you sure the tune is "Grand Old Duke of York"? Maybe it's "Farmer in the Dell," or "A-Hunting We Will Go." I grew up knowing all three; but I'm not sure I realized until now, that they all had the same melody. Brooko, is that the song you seek, or shall we look for another? -Joe- |

CHORUS And a mineing we will go a mineing we will go with pick and shovels all in our hands a mining we will go. REPEAT twice Says i to captain frankie what trebot does us crave twas 15 shillin and nine pence but 16 we did crave. We had 15 feet of safety and candles 14 pound an that where our materal for workin underground. Then us had a bit of luck there the nockers shoud us were to smash the rock and raise the tin and there was food for all. Then us all goes down to landlord jans us all had mutton stew payed landlord jan for six month ale and that wus overdew. Then we all worked down wheal easy and when that bhall was scat us all lived in the engine room and made the best of that. REPEAT THE TWICE BETWEEN EACH VERSE |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A-Mining We Will Go From: GUEST Date: 01 Apr 16 - 03:02 PM As above I ment to say just repeat the chorus twice This song and i dont know went the song was written. But Capt frankie was a real person and had something to do with mining in south africa.later on so i been told .wheal Rodney is round the back of of marazion west cornwall.I feel that there was properly a band of young single men living rough around the county. Tough and hard living. much like the Irish naivies that constucted the railways.Whom went were the work was.when a new mine was opened. When they made a bit of money it was paying off depts and high living. crashing out in the engine room once the mine was finished. BAL WAS SCAT. Hope this is helpful |
