Subject: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: Tug the Cox Date: 01 Feb 11 - 07:13 PM Hi all, looking forward to the Sidders reunion. For those not from the area, Radio Devon's Folk programme, hosted by Richard Digance, is holding a 24 hr broadcast called Folkaid to raise funds for Devon& Cornwall Air Ambulance. 2.pm fri-sat.. They're looking for people to put on events, which will be covered on air, collect, and have their totals recorded live on air. Good advertising for the festival I'd say...can we do anything? Jeff |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 01 Feb 11 - 07:23 PM Hi Jeff. Has anyone told Richard about the Middle Bar/Radway bashes that weekend? Lets face it, not much else happens in Sidmouth at this time of the year! I'm happy to record the Radway stuff, as that is where I will be! (and I'm ex BBC anyway!) |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: Herga Kitty Date: 01 Feb 11 - 08:09 PM Jeff - who is this thread aimed at? The MBS will be singing at the Anchor and collecting for the folk festival, and the Radway musicians will be playing at the Radway, and both groups have their own contact lists... who will need to consider whether to collect for the Air Ambulance as well....? Kitty |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: DG&D Dave Date: 02 Feb 11 - 03:57 AM We'll be there for the Dove reunion. But I don't think it'll be worth recording. Deep Sigh! "Here's a song for the Dove and the Anchor. Keep them! Keep them! Just the way they are. Many days we have lingered outside your tavern doors. Oh! Keep them just the way they are." |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: GUEST,SteveT Date: 02 Feb 11 - 04:20 AM Ralphie -- "Lets face it, not much else happens in Sidmouth at this time of the year"!!! Sidmouth does have its own (slow) pace of life even when there isn't a festival on! Don't forget the monthly singaround at the Volunteer, run by Barry Lister and the Claque, and on Friday 18th February there's a concert at the Manor Pavilion in aid of "Sidmouth, Living with Cancer" and featuring Phil Beer and Paul Downes with the Sidmouth Steppers and other local(ish) performers. Details below. "A Grand Night Out" - Manor Pavilion, Manor Road, Sidmouth - 7.30pm - Performers - Phil Beer & Paul Downes; Tom Palmer; Dave Wood; Steve Thomason; Sidmouth Steppers; Sidvale Folk Choir. Benefit gig in aid of ' Sidmouth Living With Cancer', a support group who have raised funds for a minibus to be used by the group for hospital appointments etc and now need to raise funds to finance all the running costs, e.g. servicing, fuel, drivers, etc. Tickets £12.50 from box office 01395 514413 Mon-Sat 10am-2pm or in person. Further information from Ruth Lewis telephone 07976 251929. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: GUEST,Derek Schofield Date: 02 Feb 11 - 05:54 AM The festival has already had contact from people at Radio Devon about the Air Ambulance benefit. and the festival has, in turn, been in contact with Tony Day of the Middle Bar Singers. No-one wants to interfere with the established pattern of the reunion, but given the MBS existing concern for charitable collections (eg for the lifeboat) I am sure everyone can work together. and yes, it's going to be a busy weekend, with the concert in the Manor as well.... organised by that great festival supporter, Bill Lankester. It's almost a complete festival weekend! That said, Radio Devon haven't been back in touch yet. Derek Schofield |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 02 Feb 11 - 07:05 AM Hi SteveT....I was being ironic! But, you have to admit it's easier to book a B&B in February!!! Looking forward to the re-union in a few weeks time. If Radio Devon want to talk to someone re the Radway stuff. Chris Timpsom is the chap to talk to...I'll try and find an E address. Alternatively they should contact the Radway direct. Derek...Didn't know about the Manor gig....A mini Fest indeed! Regards to all, and see you there! |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: Mrs.Duck Date: 02 Feb 11 - 11:59 AM I will be joining the reunion even though I've never actually been to the main festival. Looking forward to it. |

Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: Tug the Cox Date: 02 Feb 11 - 07:17 PM BTW, for any survivors, there is a folk aid night at the Clipper, Exmouth, on Sunday 20th, 8.30.. Reasonable pub grub and some decent fairly priced ( £ 2.60 or so ) real Ale. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: Sue the Borderer Date: 03 Feb 11 - 11:13 AM .....Yes. Sue's out there. But it won't be "Herbaceous Border" since what I run is now called "Wild Thyme Border Morris" (we separated to make two sides). WT will be dancing on Sunday morning (11am - on the Esplanade by the Royal York and Faulkner) - so isn't actually within the 2pm Fri - 2pm Sat. Not sure if this makes a difference to 'collecting'. Sue |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: Tug the Cox Date: 03 Feb 11 - 07:16 PM Lets all be abit creative.....anything that will raise money will be gladly accweoted and no doubt acknowledged the next week. Isn't there, however, plenty of room for 'one off' busking around the town, fri or sat, that Radio devon could pick yp....and also act as an advert foor the rest of the weekend, and indeed next August. |

Subject: RE: Sidmouth Reunion, 18th-20th feb From: GUEST,Rob Hopcott Date: 16 Feb 11 - 04:27 AM I've booked for the first time into Little Bowd Farm, Bowd which is a Caravan Club CL but the lady when she rang me back on her mobile didn't seem interested in whether I was Caravan Club or not so it may be open to anybody. She said £9 per night. I recollect last year I wild camped at the bottom of Glen Road, though, with no problems. In fact, there was another camper there next to mine which was quite cosy. I once phoned the Council about somewhere to put my camper and they told me it was illegal to wild camp but many others seem to get away with it :-) |

Went to The Radway for the first time ever - really good music, and refrained from singing. After an early start we were too tired to venture out on Saturday night, but nanaged to get a couple of pictures of the 'Morris' on Sunday morning. Thank you all for a lovely time. John Barden |
