Carl Anderson of Richmond, BC asked for lyrics to Let's Pretend. It's a Bob Nolan song, but the first time I ever heard it was on the very first album I ever bought, done by Hank Snow in the early sixties. I'll get it soon, but as always, if anyone wishes to beat me to it, you're welcome to do so! (I thought we had discussed this before, but could not find a reference.)

It wouldn't be Tom Paxtons "Lets Pretend" would it. He recorded it on his kids album. It goes Lets pretend, You and Me, Can be whatever we want to be, And you will be my secret friend, And we'll play lets Pretend.

If it is E mail me and I'll give you the rest.

Dennis

No, I should have carried over his line from the song, LETS PRETEND THE CLOUDS ARE ISLANDS IN THE SKY. That makes it very definitely the one I mentioned, which was first recorded by the Sons of the Pioneers, and covered by Hank Snow in 1942, and again on the album I have.

LETS PRETEND On a quiet summer day long ago and far away two tiny tots their game of play did end.. as they gazed into the sky where the lazy clouds roll by the little girl said "Let's just play pretend." refrain "Let's pretend those clouds are islands in the sky, and let's pretend that we're up there both you and I.. let's pretend that no one knew where to find us in the blue.. let's pretend that dreams come true as years go by." Now today as long years glide do they wander side by side do their dreams into the future wend do they still recall the day when she turned to him to say "Darling, take my hand and let's pretend." repeat refrain.

LET'S PRETEND
(Bob Nolan)
As sung by Hank Snow, recorded April 14, 1942, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

On a quiet summer day, long ago and far away,
Two tiny tots their game of play did end.
As they gazed into the sky where the lazy clouds go by,
The little girl said, "Let's just play pretend."

"Let's pretend those clouds are islands in the sky,
And let's pretend that we're up there just you and I
Let's pretend that no one knew where to find us in the blue,
Let's pretend our dreams come true as years go by."

Now today as long years glide do they wander side by side,
And do their dreams into the future wend?
Do they still recall the day when she turned to him to say,
"Darlin', take my hand and let's pretend"?

Well, if that isn't something, Kendall! We got to working on it at the same time, so here it is anyway!

Kendall, your memory is a whole lot better than mine, too. I have to resort to looking them up! (printed words and scanners do wonders) That is from the Bear Family box, Hank Snow, The Yodelling Ranger, The Canadian Years 1936-1947, Bear Family 15587, certainly one of my most prized musical possessions.

Now.. Dale, can you help me locate the words to another old Hank Snow song. THE GOVERNORS HAND?

Now, THAT was a real challenge! I do know where to find it, but I don't have it.

Here is the list of Hank Snow's Bear Family CDs. The Governor's Hand is on the fourth CD of the 9 volume set, The Singing Ranger, Volume 4. I have everything on the page EXCEPT volumes 3 and 4, the two big ones at 12 and 9 CDs respectively.

Maybe someone who is reading this has the set and can come up with it. Your best bet otherwise is Mr. Gene Graham, expert on just about everything that has to do with the Classic period of Country Music ~~ Hank Snow, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams, etc. I will drop him a line just in case he does not see this.
