Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn Ye Seasons (Andy Barnes) From: GUEST Date: 04 Jul 11 - 02:16 AM Wow...Just found this thread as I had this song in my head and wanted to look up the exact words again... I was in Straw Into Gold and sang this song with the group (I wasn't on the recording for this particular song but was in the later formation). Are you still searching for a recording of this? If so, I can help you... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: Herga Kitty Date: 18 Feb 04 - 02:52 PM Go for it Elizabeth! Well, of course, Herga regular (among other things) Johnny Collins sings it, but me being a harmony junkie I'm surprised I can sing the tune of the chorus.... Kitty |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: Gervase Date: 18 Feb 04 - 12:10 PM Good grief, that takes me back! 1999, when I was young and foolish... I still haven't cracked the tune well enough to do it with confidence, so it's all yours, m'dear. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: GUEST,Elizabeth Date: 18 Feb 04 - 10:14 AM Oh no! Gervase you , you... you early bird, you! I wanted to do it, and so I searched for the wrods and found this thread. Which means I'm too late - I assume you;re ainming to do it this weekend at Sidders? I'll talk to you anyway, and if you're not doing it, I will do it with the words in front of me. Somebody's got to do it - it's too good to miss! It's an excellent song (and your voice would suit it so much better than mine, too. Bah!) Elizabeth sending (and reading) for the first time today. PS Hi gang! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: GUEST,michael batory: michael.batory@bcuc.ac.uk Date: 29 Jun 01 - 08:14 AM Straw into Gold - SIG of course! Sometimes I worry about myself. So I went into Google and found the Nadine Sanders website (She's one of the singers). Their recording was released in 1995. Cat. No. 002. Label SIG (!). The Murphy and Morris recording on their "In Accord" release is cat.no. EJ01.

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: MAG (inactive) Date: 27 Jun 01 - 09:04 PM I posted the Straw into Gold stuff before; I think their CDs were self-produced, but don't quote me. They have a website; I don't know how to do a blue clicky (I hereby nominate blcl as the nickname) or I'd link it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: nutty Date: 27 Jun 01 - 01:48 PM Actually SIG is also "Straw into Gold" I've tried the old link that Joe gave but came up with nothing ....... likewise with Google |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: GUEST,michael batory Date: 27 Jun 01 - 09:02 AM hello again, I've noticed two references to other recordings. One by Straw into Gold and one by SIG(?) on their Substance and Essence CD. Could anyone give me more details, like catalogue numbers, labels, release dates, country of release, websites? Thanks. Michael Batory michael.batory@bcuc.ac.uk |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: GUEST,michael batory Date: 27 Jun 01 - 08:26 AM I,ve just picked up this thread and contribute to say that if there is still any doubt, Andy Barnes did write Turn Ye Seasons. This, as are all of his songs, is published by Friendly Overtures. (c) 1989 Friendly Overtures Limited. I have a copy of his own demo, but he has not released it commercially himself. The Eddie Murphy & John Morris version is on their album "In Accord" on the Dog House label. I don't have a catalogue Number. For anyone who is interested in Andy's songs, there are some others available commercially. "24 Coins" and "The Tarn" are both available on the Heather Innes CD " COAINEADH - SONGS FROM THE HEART ". This is on the Fellside label, cat.no. FECD99 Both songs are (c)1993 Friendly Overtures Limited Also Andy himself performs his "Reading Between The Lines" (c)1994 Friendly Overtures Limited, on the Songsmith Two album. The label is Songsmith and the cat.no. is Songsmith 2. If anyone knows of additional recordings or performances, I'd love to hear about them. Michael Batory. michael.batory@bcuc.ac.uk |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: MMario Date: 10 Jan 01 - 11:48 AM Nutty - you can "attach" the file to an e-mail. e-mail addresses can be obtained on the resource page for a lot of people - and through PM's for others. I can take noteworthy files (the default)and/or midi files. (file, save as, change file type to midi) Noteworthy would be more helpful as the words can be matched to the notes directly in the file. Per Joe Offer and DickG the semi-preferred means of transmitting the files for inclusion in the DT is now Noteworthy and should be e-mailed to Joe Offer when you get more comfortable, you can save the midi files, convert with miditxt and post directly into the forum. But we'll let you walk before we insist you run the marathon ;) |

Subject: Lyr Add: TURN, YE SEASONS (Andy Barnes) From: nutty Date: 06 Jan 01 - 04:16 PM Found my words - it's amazing how things change when they cross the pond and come back again ( probably a number of times ) At Christmas time we have the carols Sung to God on high Then at New Year comes the Wassail Master and Mistress give to I Turn, Turn, ye seasons turn Summer dies and Autumn follows Turn, Turn, ye seasons turn And Spring comes after Winter Easter is the time of Devotion For he who died upon the Cross May-day is a time of Celebration Wey, Hey, get along - dance Old Oss Summer is the season of growing Green fields turn to gold in the sun Autumn is the time of the Harvest Songs and praise when the work is done October brings the eve of All Hallows When those that are gone do walk the earth Then once again its around to Christmas Praise and song for the Virgin's birth There is a song for every season Sing it from your heart There is none without a reason Each one plays his part

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: nutty Date: 06 Jan 01 - 03:38 PM Andy Barnes is the author of Turn, Turn although the words I have a slightly different to those posted ( must look them out ) Andy also wrote The Last of the Great Whales (click) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: MAG (inactive) Date: 06 Jan 01 - 11:56 AM Yes, Joe, "Substance and Essence" is the tape from which I took the lyrics. the page has more info. than the tape itself. SIG is a women's harmony group, which has recently regrouped -- I haven't heard the new formation yet, but I'm sure they're as good as the original trio. If there is a way to bring this thread to their attention, they would probably chime in. -- MA |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Jan 01 - 02:45 AM Hey, this is a great song, MAG. Anybody got the tune for us? This page has a CD listed with a song called "Turn Ye Seasons" by Barnes. The group is callled Straw into Gold, and is apparently from Washington or Oregon, or up there somewhere that it's damp. Is Barnes the songwriter of this one? C'mon, you Portlandians! Tell us. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: Lyr Add: TURN, YE SEASONS (Andy Barnes)^^ From: MAG (inactive) Date: 01 Jan 01 - 03:11 PM You're very welcome. Sorry I didn't notice the post before. I haven't posted words for awhile, and forgot the , so for Joe's sake, here it is again:
Solstice is the time for chanting
Turn, turn, ye seasons turn
Springtime brings on all the greening
(chorus)
Summer is the season of growing
The tenth month brings the Eve of All Hallows
O there's a song for every season
(chorus)
|
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Turn, turn ye seasons... From: Morticia Date: 01 Jan 01 - 02:47 PM Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you......you have no idea how nuts that damn song has been making us! |
Subject: Lyr Add: TURN, YE SEASONS (Andy Barnes)^^ From: MAG (inactive) Date: 01 Jan 01 - 02:19 PM I have an awful feeling you wanted this for last night, but here goes:
Solstice is the time for chanting
CHO: Turn, turn, ye seasons turn
Springtime brings on all the greening
Summer is the season of growing
The tenth month brings the Eve of All Hallows
O there's a song for every season
It works as a round, harmonizes easily, a divides into choral singing. My tape unfortunately gives no source or credit. Enjoy. -- MA |
