Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: GUEST Date: 17 Jul 23 - 05:32 PM After listening to my pristine copy of Wearing Thin this evening, I thought I'd check out what happened to Threadbare Consort and came across this thread (about 12 years too late, it seems)! I always get a shiver listening to the quality singing on the album and it brings back fond memories of being in the control room at South Hill Park when Paul D recorded it. John |

Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: GUEST Date: 03 Nov 15 - 11:41 AM have a copy of Threadbare consort - signed by Max - I was dating him at the time- Kinda -as u do with Max- I'm from Dublin - it was at a time when there was a lot of anti Irish feelings in UK though never felt by me (too young I suppose)Max lived downstairs at 29 Grovegreen Rd., Leytonstone-Me and my friends lived upstairs! His message on the LP reads 'when your feeling saddish have a radish' - how profound is that! Anyway I'm glad he's still alive and singing in 4 part harmony. Did he ever marry? |
Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: Max Johnson Date: 04 May 13 - 10:29 AM I'm sure they'll find that it's worth every penny. The offer still stands, by the way. |

Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 15 Jul 11 - 09:36 AM Hi Dick...Don't worry, I'll certainly keep people informed both on here and otehr places, as and when...After all, I'll need to sell a few copies! |
Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: GUEST,Dick Wolff Date: 15 Jul 11 - 07:54 AM You can put me down for a copy when you get there! I was having a session of digging into my own vinyl archives recently and came across 'Wearing Thin'. Unfortunately, it's worn thin . . I well remember Threadbare Consort at Bracknell Folk Festival - and I think at the Goat, St Albans too (but not sure about that). They were my inspiration for getting into a capella folk singing and the Sacred Harp. 35 years on and I'm still singing. In fact, we might have a crack at 'The Painful Plough' for next harvest time. How might we find out that you've managed to produce a copy? |
Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 13 Jul 11 - 09:35 AM Sadly the original Master Tapes didn't survive a transfer, (although the attempt was made in the best circumstances).....Luckily, a cassette of the Masters made at the time has survived...Hurrah! So, discussions are ongoing as I type. Probably take a while, but, somewhere down the line...maybe this year, there might be an announcement, and a release. Maybe even the Surfers too. Whats a few months more wait after 30 odd years! But I can confirm that "Wearin Thin" is as safe as it can be, and doesn't wow! |

Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 23 Mar 11 - 07:30 PM Update 2.. Master tapes safely stored away...(and look in pretty good condition as well). On with the next part of the project....Catch your tape machine! |
Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: Herga Kitty Date: 22 Mar 11 - 02:52 PM Best of luck Ralphie! Kitty xx |
Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: GUEST,Spleen Cringe Date: 22 Mar 11 - 01:15 PM Sounds like good news, Ralphie. If the masters are sticky and need baking, I know a very good person for this (who doesn't charge the earth) - I'll email you the details. Can't wait to hear what's on Max's cassettes! |
Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 22 Mar 11 - 03:23 AM Update. Apparently, the Master Tapes of "Wearin Thin" might have survived! Not confirmed as yet, but if playable, could be the basis of a release. I've now heard Max's cassettes, and there are some interesting performances of songs not on the original LP, sadly the tech quality isn't great,(cassettes after all) but might be useable as extra tracks. So, fingers crossed TC fans. It might take a few months. (I've got to track down a working tape machine first!) but, after 35 ish years, whats another 6 months eh! (at least a CD release can't be pressed "off-centre" !!) |

Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: Spleen Cringe Date: 25 Feb 11 - 05:18 PM Max... you've made my day! |
Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: Max Johnson Date: 25 Feb 11 - 02:11 PM Heeey Nigel! - I've unearthed a stash of cassette tapes. Includes Wearing Thin and Don't Sing Aloha, some festival, club and radio recordings and some unreleased studio stuff. The bad news is that I haven't listened to any of it for years, so it might be unuseable! Also a sparkling cocktail of photos & posters. I'll e-mail you |
Subject: RE: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: Spleen Cringe Date: 25 Feb 11 - 10:18 AM Thanks, Bonnie. Unfortunately, it's Ralphie's copy that's too knackered to use... |

Subject: Threadbare Consort LP- anyone got one? From: Spleen Cringe Date: 25 Feb 11 - 10:12 AM Can anyone help? I'm doing an interview with Max from Threadbare Consort for Lost Folk Tapes and I'm hoping to put a few tracks from the album up at the site for people to listen to. The person who we'd hoped to get a digitised rip of the album off says his LP is so knackered it wouldn't be good enough for us to use. So... if anyone has a copy of Wearing Thin and wants to help out, please PM me or send me an email at contact (at) lostfolktapes.com Thank you, Nigel Lost Folk Tapes |
