A while back I was searching for a song for a gentleman at one of the personal care homes where I entertain. I called the song "Ten Little Girls" and, even with your help, was unable to locate it. I came back to the thread today and realized that the correct song title is "Ten Pretty Girls", so I took a look around the Net to see if I could locate the lyrics, chords or a MIDI version of the song. I came up with the following information: there was a song called "Ten Pretty Girls", written by Will Grosz and Jimmy Kennedy, Chappell & Co. (ASCAP) which appeared on the recording "Johnny Long Complete 1937 - 1940". There was also a song of the same name by Cliff Bruner and I heard 15 seconds of the tune (instrumental only) on a Frank McWhorter site (enough to identify it as the same tune the gentleman sang to me).

The lyrics he gave me can be found under the Forum's "Ten Little Girls". However they were incomplete and I do not have the music to the whole song. If you can help me with the lyrics and/or the music I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Charles

This one really bugs me, Charles. I know I've heard it, and I might well have it here in the house. Every search I've made has drawn a blank. I'll bookmark this thread, and it will probably come to me in the next millenium.....

Thanks, Joe...

On checking the Forum tonight I turned up several entries about "Ten Pretty Girls or something like that"! along with your reply to my query.

However, the most amazing (well, it was amazing to me) thing happened last night. When I picked up Karen after her choir practice I casually asked one of the gentlemen (who plays accordion) if he'd ever heard of the song "Ten Pretty Girls". He immediately started singing the song! I asked him if he had all the words and the music and he said he did. I went over to his place this afternoon and I now have a copy of the tune and words! To think I could've asked him about it last year when I first was asked for the song, but didn't!

Anyways, thanks to you and to all the others who responded to my original request for your interest and help. I'll now have the song ready for the time when I'm called back to entertain at the personal care home in Kildonan.

So, Charles....
Would you like to share the song with the rest of the class??? (grin)
(That's what the nuns would say when they caught us passing a note around the classroom, or exchanging a secret joke)

Anyhow, if you'd like to post the song, we'd like to see it.

Okay, Joe... I'd be pleased to share the song I have with you, but, at the moment, I don't have the facilities for sending the music to you in any form. I will be working on that. I think I need more storage room to start with (I had to dump out my Cakewalk program so I could continue to send e-mail!) Possibly there are other programs and/or ways of transmitting the song or translating the notes to something that can be read by your program but I haven't had the time to look into them yet. I did bookmark a forum page on this subject from mudcat which I will read when I'm not out entertaining at the personal care homes or practicing to do the shows! Or just keeping up with the chores inside and outside the house!

Meanwhile, the lyrics can be found right here at:

p.s. The nuns' techniques of teaching (or class control) left an indelible impression on you, I see!

Charles, do you mean to tell me that the lyrics have been here in the forum for a year and I didn't find it? I'm truly ashamed of myself. I guess I could blame you for misleading me with a wrong title, but I shoulda known. The nuns and Dick Greenhaus taught me better than that.
Hmmmm. If Cakewalk is too big a program for your computer, you might want to try downloading the trial version of Notweworthy composer, which takes up about a megabyte on your hard drive. I can sympathize - I have space problems on my computer, too; and that caused a crash which leaves me without RealPlayer and MS Media Player. Darn.
