Subject: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: SINSULL Date: 31 Mar 11 - 06:10 PM David is a gem. He wowed us at the Portland Maritime Festival, brought us to tears setting LEJ's shanty for Barry Finn to music and now will be appearing in South Portland, ME at Trubrit's on Saturday, April 23rd. This is Easter weekend so we are hoping no one will be working Sunday. House Concert starts at 7:30. Arrive a little earlier to meet David and browse his CDs. Wine and soft drinks pre-concert. Dessert buffet at half time. It is also St. George's Day so I expect there will be some traditional foolishness - anyone have a dragon they are not currently using? Please contribute to the desserts and beverages if you can. David's website is here: http://www.davidcoffin.com/ He is known for his contributions to maritime music and history. But also (primaily?) teaches young children the wonders of music. A must for those of you with children. I suspect the Limberjack will accompany as well as Linnea, David's daughter. This promises to be one of our best concerts yet. Who's in? Who needs a bed? Jacqui will correct any misinformation I may have offered. |

Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: ranger1 Date: 31 Mar 11 - 06:51 PM I'll definitely be there. I do have to work on Sunday, though. Some of us have to work so the rest of you can play... |
Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: kendall Date: 31 Mar 11 - 07:53 PM It's not easy to impress me. I'm jaded I guess after so many years of hearing, meeting the best, but David certainly does that. I was very impressed and I'm looking forward to seeing him again. And, his daughter is such a delight! Come on out folks, you will be glad you did. |
Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: Charley Noble Date: 31 Mar 11 - 08:59 PM Count us in! Will there also be curry? What can we bring? Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: SINSULL Date: 01 Apr 11 - 08:57 AM No Charley. We no longer do a buffet. Instead there are some fruit and cheese nibblies with drinks before and desserts and coffee at the break. |

Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: Jeri Date: 03 Apr 11 - 06:13 PM I'm in. I'd rather see/hear him than a boat load of more well-known folks, and if Linnea's going to be there, the night will be amazing. |

Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: Bat Goddess Date: 05 Apr 11 - 10:24 AM I would really, really, really like to come, but, alas, I think logistics problems will keep us home. I, too, have to work Sunday. And Tom is having such glare problems (and definitely can't drive at night) that I don't feel comfortable with him dropping me off at work on our way home Sunday and then driving himself home (and then back to get me at 5). I'd have to drive HIM home, first, and then back to Portsmouth by noon. That's over 40 miles and over an hour that I just can't deal with. The good news is Tom has an appointment with an ophthalmologist tomorrow. I suspect the cause of the vision problems is cataracts and that can get taken care of, I hope, fairly soon. But, alas, not in time for this concert. Linn |
Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: SINSULL Date: 06 Apr 11 - 10:00 AM Sorry to hear that Linn. |
Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: Bat Goddess Date: 06 Apr 11 - 03:57 PM Just got back from the doctors'. They don't think that the cataract is causing the glare problem, but he DOES have a bad dry eye problem which could be a major part of it. Got drops, salve and advice. Has another appointment with another ophthalmologist in a couple weeks. Gotta work around my schedule because I have to drive -- and Tom has an appointment with Dr. Z and his vocal therapist next week. Linn |

Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: ranger1 Date: 23 Apr 11 - 02:41 PM We're dropping like flies. I have a low grade fever and cough, Jason's face is puffed out with a tooth infection and he's having (non-allergic) side effects from the antibiotics. I, my icky germs, Jason, and his infected tooth will unfortunately not be attending this evening. And I was really, really, looking forwasrd to this! Waaaaaaah! |

Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: jacqui.c Date: 23 Apr 11 - 10:43 PM What a superb evening! David was amazingly good with a varied choice of songs, including a wonderful version of The Outside Track - I don't think I've ever heard it sung better than he did. Linnea joined him on some of the songs, singing lead a couple of times and her sweet voice made a great evening even better. If you weren't there you missed a really good one! Here's hoping that we can lure David and Linnea back up to Maine again some time. |
Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: kendall Date: 23 Apr 11 - 10:59 PM They were just great. First time I ever saw a standing ovation at a house concert. All you no shows missed a good one. |

Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: ranger1 Date: 24 Apr 11 - 07:03 AM Kendall, sweetie, you were the big reason why I kept my germs at home. I was really looking forward to this house concert. |
Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: SINSULL Date: 24 Apr 11 - 12:15 PM Oh my goodness, what an amazing evening. David and Linnea had dinner at my house with Kendall, Jacqui and Jeri. We started out as friendly strangers and ended up laughing and enjoying each other like old friends. The concert at TRUBRIT's started with The Jamestown Homeward Bound and ended with SantyAnna (?) a rousing chanty. In the middle were The Rainbow Connection with Linnea singing harmony, Wiscasset Schooners, Puddlers' Song (WOW!), Wyncken, Blyncken and Nod with David singing harmony to Linnea's lead,The Ways of Man, Bluenose, and at least a dozen more. David is relaxed and easily draws in his audience. Linnea's voice has matured as has she. An amazingly self possessed performer who clearly enjoys her music. The audience gave a standing ovation - a first for our concert series. This was an evening not to be missed. Once again, thanl you Deborah and Tom for opening your beautiful home to us and making a lemon cake. Pure magic. SINS PS Yes, Micca. I bought the new CD for you, the one with Linnea singing several songs. M |
Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: GUEST,kendall Date: 24 Apr 11 - 01:02 PM Tami, I do appreciate that. Too many people like to spread their germs and I have on occasion, upbraided them for their lack of manners. |

Subject: RE: David Coffin House Concert at TRUBRIT's From: Jeri Date: 24 Apr 11 - 04:28 PM It was a lovely dinner and a great concert. I listened to Hissyfit, then David & Linnea all the way home (I owe Jacqui some money). I think I got a sufficient amount of sleep last night, but I'm still nodding off. Yesterday, there was snow, and today, I drove home with my windows rolled down. |
