Thread Name: Lyric req: You're a Rascal, Tarry Flynn.
Subject: An Fhaillingín Mhuimhneach

a song with a tune resembling Tarry Flynn:

An Fhaillingín Mhuimhneach

Fallaing ar fhallaing 'sí an fhaillingín Mhuimhneach í.
Fallaing ar fhallaing 'sí an fhaillingín Mhuimhneach í.

curfá/chorus:
Fallaing ar fhallaing 'sí an fhaillingín Mhuimhneach í.
Fallaing chrua chasta 'snár chasa sí choich' orainn.

Fográim an fhallaing,
Is iomaí dath daor uirthi,
Tá dubh agus dearg
glas-uaine 'gus buí inti.

Dá mb'agam an fhallaing
ní thabharfainn don phíobair' í
Is túisce do chraithfinn
mar easair fé' chaoirigh í.

copied from RTÉ (Irish state broadcasting company) - "Radio Scoile 1975"
Fallaing = mantle, cloak
I didn't do the accents in html; I hope they survive long-term

Buíochas. I am very very happy about having the lyrics for both this song and for Eamonn Mhagaine.

On the spelling of my name - I chose the seanfhocail when I picked "Mían" as a translation for "Amy"

During name research, I was not keen on the name "Grainne", (though it is a fine name)and nothing else seemed right. And the older form "mían" also had several more meanings to satisfy the PUNctilious intellect.

For which I may be PUNished.

And while I think of it - isn't there a theme in Concierto de Aranjuez that sounds very lile the eponymous cloak?

I made use of this fine tune when I wrote the song "Tarry Flynn". Johnny McEvoy recorded it and it was the B side of his major hit "Nora"

Le gach dea ghui
