Subject: More vintage Art Thieme on YouTube From: pgoelz Date: 06 May 11 - 12:42 PM Hey Mudcatters (and Art), As promised, I'm back digitizing my old videos. This was supposed to be a retirement project and I am partially retired so I'm back at it. I've set the wayback machine to 1983 and discovered a 20 minute set Art did for the 25th birthday party for the No Exit Coffeehouse in Chicago (the Lunt and Glenwood incarnation). It is processed and uploaded and available on YouTube: Art Thieme at the No Exit 25th It includes an incognito introduction by Anne Hills and at the end, Art is joined by dobro maestro Paul Breidenbach. I think this is his entire set. There were a couple breaks in the video but I don't think I actually deleted anything. It may share a couple jokes with his set I uploaded previously but I think all the songs are new. Interestingly, ALL previous and present No Exit owners were present in the audience except Peter Steinberg (who was assumedly busy running Perriwinkle's). There is a shadow that passes back and forth in front of the camera a couple times that I am pretty sure is Sue Kozin. The shirt looks familiar... There are other videos from the party coming soon. More of Brian Gill and Peggy Compton, Chuck (Brodsky?), Jim Craig... haven't heard him sing in YEARS. And more. Enjoy! Paul Goelz www.pgoelz.com |

Subject: RE: More vintage Art Thieme on YouTube From: Art Thieme Date: 07 May 11 - 04:08 PM Thanks, folks! I'm here and have been trying to download this with my dial-up. In three hours I only got a few minutes. Have been waiting for a phone call and can't get it when downloading. So I got off line. I've no idea if I'm happy this is up on YouTube, but it's o.k. I made a bunch of records that are as good as I could make 'em. And these free things are what people will remember. So be it. What songs are here--and was I in tune? Art |
Subject: RE: More vintage Art Thieme on YouTube From: GUEST Date: 07 May 11 - 04:45 PM Very well done! In tune, great corny jokes, and the songs were: Bullhead Boat Me and Jimmie Rogers White Squall (Stan Rogers) dobro guy (didn't catch his name) (?) Denver Rio Grande - Zach Wabash Cannonball Great stuff! Thanks again. |

Subject: RE: More vintage Art Thieme on YouTube From: Art Thieme Date: 07 May 11 - 07:04 PM Thanks for the good words---and the info. I am appreciative even if I don't sound like it. Stuff has been on my mind and clouding my intake of late. I am truly glad to see my try at Stan Rogers' WHITE SQUALL is a part of this. It's the only song of his that I did every once in a while. The truth is, Stan, himself did everything he wrote and sang so much better than others ever could. He once asked me why I never sang any of his songs; all I could tell him was what I just said here. He was a master. And a new CD on Borealis Records is just coming out of Stan Rogers' songs---all remastered and put together by Stan's wife, Ariel, and his long-time friend and accompanist PAUL MILLS. (aka Curly Boy Stubbs) All the best, Art |
Subject: RE: More vintage Art Thieme on YouTube From: pgoelz Date: 08 May 11 - 05:37 PM Hi Art, We will remember you for ALL of your performances. Your records capture part of you, but the videos capture a bit more of your presence. And some of your ad-libs like asking if your fly was open when I was fiddling with the mic below you ;) They also capture the warmth and presence you had on the No Exit stage. You look like you are just plain having fun along with the audience. I have your records and was in the audience for one of the sessions for the first one. But I am very glad we can SEE you again. Be well, Art. You touched and still touch a lot of peoples lives. Paul |
Subject: RE: More vintage Art Thieme on YouTube From: BK Lick Date: 10 May 11 - 04:19 AM Info about all the wonderful video Paul is making available is getting kinda scattered over several threads. Here are some others: Art Thieme on Youtube Video from the 2nd No Exit on YouTube More vintage No Exit video Art, I've put all these videos on a DVD for you -- watch for the mail. Paul, you wrote in the first thread that you thought you might have a clip of Dodi Kallick. If so,that would be lovely 'cuz there's no video of her anywhere. —BK |
