Hey all -

Looking for the lyrics (fake book = ok) for a 20's(?) song that has these lyrics -

Standing on a streetcorner - doin no harm, along came a policeman and he took me by the arm.

Goes on about being in the jail cell and watching the bedbugs and mosquitos playing a "game of ball"

any ideas?

thanx

My mom sang this song as a child:
Standin' on the corner, not doing any harm
Along came a policeman and took me by the arm
He took me 'round the corner and pressed a little bell
Along came the police patrol and took me to my cell.

Six o'clock in the morning, I looked up on the wall
The roaches and the bedbugs were havin' a game of ball.
The score was six to nothing, the roaches were ahead.
The bedbugs hit a homerun that knocked me out of bed!

This thread was on Mudcat several months ago with all sorts of variations and verses. Which really did not answer my questions about it. I first heard it back in the 1930's and where was a verse that ended "And thats the way they treat the bums at the Whaley Ave. Jail" THe Whaley ave jail was in New Haven, Ct. tho I guess any name could be used. As you can guess I am also interested in this song. Allan

Allan, was this (click) the other thread you were talking about? Looks like there was one answer to your question, but it didn't give much information. Seems like I've seen this song or heard it before. Maybe there's something in the Naughty Kids I or Naughty Kids II threads. I didn't look - gotta go.
G'nite.
