Info Request: Debbie Greene

Does anyone remember folk singer Debbie Greene? She was folk singer, Eric Anderson's girlfriend at some point during the 1960's. I believe she also sang on a track on one of Eric Anderson's albums.

Just curious if anyone knows if she ever recorded her own album and what became of her? Many years ago she was living in the Boston area but don't know if she still lives in Massachusetts.

Actually I recall reading that she even once taught Joan Baez some guitar chords in the early or mid-60's.

Debby Green lives in Southern California now. She and Eric were married, now divorced, and they had a daughter who is a singer. Yes, she did teach Joan B some guitar chords.

Thank you Mary Katherine for your reply. Do you know if she still is involved with music & did she ever record any other songs other then on Eric's one album?

I wonder if she ever knew of a female folk singer named Dayle Stanley who also was singing during the early and mid-60's and lived in Massachusetts during those years. Dayle sang at local folk clubs in the Mass. area and recorded two albums. Debbie & Dayle were probably hanging out at the same coffeehouses and folk clubs around that time.

A couple good books that mention Debbie Green are Baby Let me Follow You Down by Eric Von Schmidt (a very good book on the whole Cambridge folk scene) and Positively 4th Street by David Hajdu.
Debbie did teach Joan Baez quite a lot, and in the early days Joan actually copied Debbies repertoire, style, and arrangements.

I saw eric anderson and debbie green in greenwich village many times she was also playing clubs in ma with towns van zant

"Debby Green" plays second guitar on "Todoy is the highway" and "Bumblebee" on Eric Andersen's first Vangauard LP "Today is the Highway" c1965

"Debbie Green" plays 2nd guitar on "Violets of dawn" and "Close the door lightly when you go" on EA's 2nd LP "'Bout Changes & things" c1966.

"Debbie Green" also plays 2nd guitar on "Violets of dawn" on EA's 3rd LP "'Bout Changes 'n'Things Take 2" c1967.

"Debby Green"" is credited on piano on EA's 4th LP "More Hits from Tin Pan Alley" c1968.

"Debby Green" plays piano on EA's 5th LP "Avalanche"

"Debbie Green" gets "special thanks" on EA's 6th LP "Eric Anderson". She may or may not be the woman in the red dress with EA on the back cover. The last track on the LP is "Go now, Deborah".

"Deborah Green Andersen" sings backing vocals on "Blue river" (with Joni Mitchell) and on "Round the bend" and "Deborah" gets "special thanks" on EA's 7th LP "Blue River" c1972.

"Deborah Andersen" is credited with backing vocals on Side 1 and with "Very special thanks" on EA's 1975 LP for Arista "Be True To You".

No credits of any sort for any variation of Debby/Debbie/Deborah on the next LP "Sweet Surprise" from 1976.... good to hear she is still with us and active.

Poor Eric, the 2nd most mis-spelled folk artist of all time, behind the clear winner Loudon Wainwright III.)

She lived in Mill Valley for many years before moving to SoCal. I used to babysit for her daughter Sari.

I took guitar lessons from Debbie Greene and met Eric Anderson briefly at their apartment in the middle 1960s. In spite of her patient, excellent instruction, I ended up a high school science teacher. But if Debbie reads this, know that 50 years later, people remember you and appreciate all you taught them.

So glad to know I wasn't imagining...what? The strength of her music ripped through the simple type of her name on an album cover? Don't know. Just know I always noticed & remembered the credits and referrences attached to her name on Eric Andersen's records. Shine on, Debbbie Greene,as you surely are doing

I must apologize for hijacking this thread, but since I have not been granted membership here I have no other way of introducing a new topic.

I need to find out the status of John McCormick, a native of Indiana who moved to California some years ago. A very talented folksinger and guitarist, and a terrific person, he hasn’t been heard from in some time, hasn’t updated his Facebook page, and we’re wondering if he’s still alive. He’s in his 60s.
