Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: Arthur_itus Date: 16 May 11 - 06:24 AM I am not sure that this is the correct way to try and get house concerts. If I was able to do house concerts, it would have to be professional artists who I know and trust and are able to entertain for 90 minutes. I am sure that applies to most people who do house concerts. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: breezy Date: 16 May 11 - 06:38 AM I would have thought those organising H Cs will be acquainted with artistes they wish to invite to play and ignore any cold calling. Sorry, I am not available, my schedule is 'chock a block' for the rest of my life. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: Deckman Date: 16 May 11 - 06:55 AM You might find this interesting: Here in the northwest corner of the U.S., the larger performance venues are drying up. By these I mean the long time, dependable school tours, concert hall performances, major theaters. I think this is due to several reasons: the poor economy, changing of people's viewing habits, the new music toys that are available. With this change, I'm noticing a large increase in "house concerts." Many long time and large venue performers are now relying on house concerts for their daily bread. While these house concerts are great for the audiences, as they offer a much more intimate and relaxed presentation, it's pretty hard to pay the bills with the revenue. I didn't intend this to be a thread creep. bob(deckman)nelson |

Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 03 Jan 12 - 04:28 AM What is a house concert? Is it a do in someones house? we've been booked for garden concerts - but most british houses are not big enough. We find most of our bookings come from word of mouth - but thats not very helpful if you are just starting out. I think doing floor spots at folk clubs is still one of the best ways, and you have an enjoyable evening as well. Recently at a local folk club we have had a few young performers - but they made the mistake of not being a very good audience. You need to be prepared to show interest in what else is on - as well as be able to perform yourself. FloraG. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: Elmore Date: 03 Jan 12 - 06:28 AM Our folk club in Watertown, Ma. has presented some wonderful house concerts through the years. Performers have included The Copper Family,The Stewarts of Blair, Louis Killen, Pete Coe, Dave Webber and Anni Fentiman, Mertyn Wyndham-Read, Ray Fisher, and, on ocassion, an American singer. Everybody, even the performers , seemed to have a good time. For me, they were memorable events. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: Elmore Date: 03 Jan 12 - 12:25 PM Mertyn Wyndham-Read? ocassion? How about Martyn, and occasion? Jeez. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: kendall Date: 03 Jan 12 - 05:03 PM Have you ever had Priscilla Herdman, or Caryl P. Weiss? |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: GUEST,999 Date: 03 Jan 12 - 07:22 PM House concerts are wonderful. They allow a greater intimacy with the audience in an atmosphere that is more relaxed than most clubs. There is time to talk with people who wish to and because it's in someone's home, you usually don't require sound systems, etc. I did my first one in 1967 at the home of a dear friend in California for the purpose of raising money to support Eugene McCarthy's bid for the presidency. Afterwards, I got to meet some pre-eminent physicists and engineers, listen to them speak about their work, hopes and aspirations for the USA, and learn that they are not all absentminded. I don't know who wouldn't like to sing for lotsa people, but lemme tell you this: Debra Cowan gets within a hundred miles of here and I'll be there. Even if I have to walk. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: Phil Cooper Date: 03 Jan 12 - 10:09 PM Who, as a performer, wouldn't want to do a house concert? |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: Anglo Date: 04 Jan 12 - 01:37 AM I'm available too - house concerts anywhere, any country. English language, an occasional French song. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Jan 12 - 06:17 AM I think quite a lot of UK folk club or miniconcert venues are small enough not to need electrics. RC4's gig at the Good Intent next week will be PAless, and upstairs at the MAG (part of the Goose is out - where we saw Capella last year and where we will ourselves be some time in 2013) is PAless. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: Elmore Date: 04 Jan 12 - 07:17 AM Attn: Kendall We've presented Priscilla frequently in larger venues. I don't remember that we ever booked Caryl. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: GUEST,guest Flush Date: 04 Jan 12 - 08:10 AM They do lots of House Concerts in Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, always great fun either as performer of audience. |

Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: jacqui.c Date: 04 Jan 12 - 04:06 PM We've got that Deb Cowan doin' an 'ouse concert in South Portland, Maine on 22 January. Bit far for you to walk Bruce. Sign up Anglo (John Roberts) to do a house concert - he's amazing. |
Subject: RE: Available for House Concerts From: Celtaddict Date: 04 Jan 12 - 07:23 PM I've hosted house concerts with Debra Cowan and John Roberts (individually and together, both are terrific) and many others. My living room has become my favorite venue. I have a wish list of the people I would like to see here, and for this reason have not booked any cold calls but would not rule it out; I have been contacted by a couple of people prominent enough it would not have occurred to me to contact them, and also by people who are far away and whom I did not know were going to be in my area. If, however, you wish to look for venues, definitely include information about your location and type of music, with sound clips or YouTube links. |
