Hello all,

Anyone here a fan of Dave Evans? I thought I'd post a cover I put up on Youtube a little while ago of one of Dave's trademark instrumentals - "Stagefright". It's a song that I've been playing for a long time now, but it never seems to get easier! Anyway I hoped some of you hear might enjoy hearing it..

Dave Evans - "Stagefright" Cover

Sean

Nice! I think this tune is probably the high point of the post-Davy Graham/Jansch/Renborne 60s "baroque folk guitar" period. I haven't heard Dave's version for a while but isn't your version quite a bit slower?

Very nice indeed, Sean. It's not a tune I know, but you play it very well indeed - thanks for posting. :-)

Fantastic! I confess I haven't even heard of Dave Evans, but he's got a new fan, as do you, sir.

Thanks kindly folks! Dave Evans is certainly a guitarist and singer of note, I've always found his "Sad Pig Dance" album (what a name!) an amazing example of all the magic that can be created with one steel-string guitar. The man is a genius and his music made me want to try and carve a career in music (yikes!).

Tunesmith - Yes, my version is slower. Dave can be found on Youtube playing it during a 70's Grey Whistle Test episode, if you haven't seen it yet!

I taught myself to play most of 'Stagefright' and all of 'Chaplinesque' (both from Sad Pig Dance) from Tab back in 1980 when it was much easier to learn new stuff (at age 20)! 'Stagefright' has always been very tricky to play, but such a joy when you get bits of it right, and at the right speed! I saw Dave Evans live at The Willows Folk Club in Arundel, W. Sussex about the same time. Completely out of this world to watch him play that tune without a bum note!! Anyone know where he is now??

Sean - do you still need a copy of the Tab for Stagefright? I've got it safely stashed with my Vinyl copy of Sad Pig Dance. Let me know.

Dave Evans is living in Belgium, where he has been for many years...
