Subject: RE: Best shanty and sea songs singers now? From: GUEST,JimP Date: 08 Jun 11 - 10:40 PM Mudcat's own Chantyranger and Radriano are excellent performers, but also have done mighty work in researching and bringing to life lesser known (and previously unknown) shanties and sea songs. Go here and listen: http://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/PeterKasinRichardAdrianowicz |
Subject: RE: Best shanty and sea songs singers now? From: Charley Noble Date: 08 Jun 11 - 10:42 PM Well, there's The Roaring Forty of Sydney, Australia Bob Zentz from Norfolk, Virginia. The Maritime Crew from Auckland, New Zealand I could probably rattle off another hundred or so if you'd like. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: Best shanty and sea songs singers now? From: r.padgett Date: 09 Jun 11 - 01:19 AM UK of course The Keelers and all their individual members! Kimbers Men, Graham Knights WE do of course have a set of Shanty singers who have entered main stream from Cornwall and making £millions, now what do they call them? Lots more to come I reckon Ray |
Subject: RE: Best shanty and sea songs singers now? From: Dave Hanson Date: 09 Jun 11 - 03:08 AM Totaly agree with you Ray about The Keelers and Kimbers Men, both as groups and individually are excellent, that Cornish lot are more like a choir, and not a good one at that. Dave H |

Subject: RE: Best shanty and sea songs singers now? From: Dave Hanson Date: 09 Jun 11 - 08:26 AM All the instruments used by The Boat Band just interfere with the song and are extremely irritating, it just seems to be a case of ' we've got the instruments, so we'll jolly well use them, ' shanty's don't need musical instruments. Dave H |
Subject: RE: Best shanty and sea songs singers now? From: Richard from Liverpool Date: 09 Jun 11 - 08:45 AM I definitely like Gibb Sahib's approach, definitely shanties and sea songs without the bullshit. I'd love to see him as a performer at some of these shanty festivals. I'm not sure how what he does would translate from the youtube video into a live performance, I can imagine him grabbing audience members to get them to join in and stuff (in the same way as he's done with friends and family on his youtube videos). |
