Subject: The Wombles not welcome at Glastonbury? From: I don't know Date: 09 Jun 11 - 07:18 AM Just read that the founder of Glastonbury Micheal Eavis said booking the Wombles was a bit of a mistake. Why, young members of the audiance will love them & older members can remember what they where doing when the Wombles were around in there youth. Also I think the clean up your envioment message is still very much needed. I used to like the Wobles & have fond memories of play the part of Uncle Bulgeria for a year of fundraising back in 1976- my first singing gig. |

From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 09 Jun 11 - 10:45 AM Apart from demonstrating how much of an elitist snob Eavis can be regarding cherished pop culture from our vintage years of mass entertainment.. it's also highly hypocritical considering his previous high profile bookings of 'naff' 'camp' 'so bad it's good' entertainers from the golden years of the 60's & 70's. Let alone all the dreadful upper middle class performance arts hippy circus 'street entertainer' bollox that overpopulate & infest the fields and fringe stages... |

From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 09 Jun 11 - 11:08 AM Biggest selling UK act of 1974 and featuring many really good session musicians such as Chris Spedding and Clem Cattini. Apparently, members of Steeley Span were in the costumes during one TOTP appearance. The Glastonbury site should be tidy enough after this performance R |

From: GUEST,Suibhne Astray Date: 09 Jun 11 - 11:19 AM Last time I was at Glastonbury was 1985, but I dare say Eavis could do with the Wombles to assist with the clean-up excercise after all the eco-revellers have gone back to their cosy homes... |
