The most upsetting and saddest news that I've ever been asked to pass on is the fact that our dear friend Mike Waterson left us in the early hours. He died at 3.00 a.m. today 22nd June. We'll miss him so much – a great man!

Even when you're expecting it the shock still happens!

Apart from the fantastic and unique music, he was a good fisherman. He came on one of our Sidmouth fishing charter trips a year or several back and had us laughing all day. Then I drove him on a day trip down the Devon coast to search for ideas of what fishing boat he should buy. Needless to say, I learned everything I ever needed to know about fishing boats.

A great bloke and a legend rolled into one!

Much sympathy to the family.

Bon voyage Mike.

From Ireland. We just heard and although we knew the inevitable, it is still a shock and such a great loss. Our thoughts are with the Waterson family. They have given so much to the music we love. Bay Folk Club won't be the same without Mike's laughter and stories.

This is very sad news. I was lucky to hear him sing on a number of occasions, in various combinations, and to meet him once or twice, when he was lovely, funny, and gracious. His passing is a great loss to the traditional music community on the whole, and to his family in particular; my thoughts are with them.
