I've searched for words to this with no luck...I don't know the artist, but the melody has been banging around my head for a long time..Only tiny piece of lyrics I can remember is "I thought I had the world by the tail,...but that was before I met you!"....Thanks for any help, and "Keep on the Sunny Side!"....Gary

BEFORE I MET YOU - Recorded by Carl Smith
Words and music by C. L. Seitz, J. C. Lewis and E. Rader

[A] I thought I had seen pretty [D] girls in my [A] time
That Was Before I Met [E7] You
I [A] never saw one that I [D] wanted for [A] mine
But That Was Be-[E7] fore I Met [A] You. [A7]

CHORUS - I [D] thought I was swingin' the [A] world by the tail
I thought I could never be [E7] blue
I [A] thought I'd been kissed and I [D] thought I'd been [A] loved
But That Was Be-[E7] fore I Met [A] You.

I wanted to ramble and always be free
But That Was Before I Met You
I said that no woman could ever hold me
But That Was Before I Met You.

CHORUS

Here's a third verse, from Flatt & Scruggs........Tiger

They tell me I must reap just what I have sown,
Darlin', I hope it's not true.
For, once, I made plans about livin' alone,
That was before I met you.

REPEAT CHORUS

Thanks for the reminder Ralph and the other verse. The F&S version didn't come to mind. I usually think of the charted version that was popular on the radio WAY BACK WHEN!

What are the lyrics to this lullabye? Isn't it the same tune as "Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ra"?

From: Ralph Butts

Here it is. The second verse is rarely, if ever, performed....Tiger

From the sheet music at Mississippi State University:

WHEN IRISH EYES ARE SMILING
Words by Chauncy Olcott and Geo. Graff, Jr.; music by Ernest R. Ball.
Copyright 1912, M. Witmark & Sons, New York

1. There's a tear in your eye,
And I'm wondering why,
For it never should be there at all.
With such pow'r in your smile,
Sure a stone you'd beguile,
So there's never a teardrop should fall.
When your sweet lilting laughter's
Like some fairy song,
And your eyes twinkle bright as can be;
You should laugh all the while
And all other times smile,
And now, smile a smile for me.

CHORUS: When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, it's like a morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.

2. For your smile is a part
Of the love in your heart,
And it makes even sunshine more bright.
Like the linnet's sweet song,
Crooning all the day long,
Comes your laughter so tender and light.
For the springtime of life
Is the sweetest of all,
There is ne'er a real care or regret;
And while springtime is ours,
Throughout all of youth's hours,
Let us smile each chance we get. CHORUS
