Subject: Cape Breton fiddler: info sought From: Colin Randall Date: 07 Jul 11 - 04:15 PM Long story cut short, I wrote a piece - http://www.salutlive.com/2011/07/cape-breton.html - about Cape Breton music that included this quote from someone describing a hospital visit: "The guy two beds over is Dougie Grant a fiddler from Inverness, contemporary of Donald R Cameron, John Allenstein and Buddie MacMaster. Two or three time a day he plays - we just shout out the names of jigs and reels we remember-he plus them all Well! Only in a Cape Breton hospital eh?" The quote was from a third-party Facebook source and I have not been able to make contact with him since. But I had never heard of Dougie Grant and can find no trace in basic internet searches. I thought the quote would appeal to pretty much anyone who makes music in Cape Breton, or appreciates the music made there, but i would love to know more about Dougie Grant. In the Facebook message referred to, the name John Allenstein was followed by the word "cater:" in case that is a clue. |
Subject: RE: Cape Breton fiddler: info sought From: Colin Randall Date: 08 Jul 11 - 01:42 PM I hope no one mind if I give a solitary bump-up to this request for any info on Dougie Grant, Cape Breton fiddler. If this produces nothing, I shall leave it at that and hope my Facebook contact responds to my message to him. |
