(The friend I knew who sang it substituted "Younger man..." which is my intention, but I have no idea who recorded the song nor how the rest of it goes...)

I can help a little. The song is "Come up the years" by the Jefferson Airplane. Don't know which album, or where you can find the lyrics/music, though.

Here's the song I thought you were looking for, before I saw the other messages. Ah, it brings back memories. Merri was a senior in high school, long hair, long legs, pretty eyes, intelligent. But alas, I was far too old, being a freshman in college (and in a Catholic seminary, to boot). It made her cry, but I felt honor-bound to push her aside. The song still makes me think of her. A year's difference in age doesn't seem like anything now. Our perspectives certainly change, don't they?

Joe -- I know what you mean. I had a sort-of boyfriend when I was in high school, but we just couldn't pursue the relationship because he was a sophomore and I was a senior. He wore English Leather and I lusted so mightily for that kid. I bought some English Leather and put it on my TEDDY BEAR so I could smell it every night as i was going to sleep.

Nowadays, two years is nuttin. (Of course, so is English Leather...)

Hi, LEJ - check the Search Engine at olga.net (click) and you'find there's still a lot available. Click for your song, but all they have is chords. OLGA is probably the best source for TAB. If they ain't got it, you'll be hard-put to find it anywhere.

An interesting origin of the melody of the Lovin' Spoonful's 1965 song a "Younger Girl" was based on Cannon's Jug Stompers' "Prison Wall Blues."
