Holy crap... Nat is one of the best fiddlers I have ever seen and SO is Donnell but I never saw him play those kinda tunes before! That is just awesome. Not that I would have doubted his ability... ever. The guy is almost as good as Nat! ";-)

Perhaps I shouldn't but... no matter that Donnell has more "range" and technical prowess than Nat, I find she plays fiddle "better" simply because she plays "dirty" Cape Breton fiddle. My ear maybe? In any case, both are beyond good... past great.

Anyone who hasn't heard Natalie MacMaster or Leahy should.

Natalie is a great fiddler without question, but I am also with you Gnu,Donnell is very very good. I heard him doubling the bow but i also thought that I heard a triple as well. maybe a fiddle player looking in could confirm this. A very good fiddler for sure.

They return home (Donnell's maternal home) to Cape Breton for this Sunday's Broad Cove Concert.

If you scroll down in the gallery section you will find a very young Natalie playing there in 1983. Donnell's mother used to stepdance there.

Great show. For a variety of reasons I haven't been able to get out much lately. Watching this on line made me feel reconnected with the folk world. Also,this venue can be uncomfortable when they have a full house.

Unfortunately, I only caught the set with the 2 piano players - the fiddlers were just sitting in the middle. Who were the piano players? Beaut stuff - do they have any recordings?

She was indeed! She taught her sons the steps as well. They used to (perhaps still do) close out their show with a round of them all dancing in unison.
