I had the pleasure of seeing some old friends from at least thirty years ago at the recent Bradfield Folk Weekend. It took me some time to recognise them , but what a great scene we have.Players from all over the World meeting up and enjoying playing music together in mutual enjoyment and friendship. We can renew old friendships from a few weeks to thirty, or forty years and it is made possible by Festivals and weekend organised events.
Long may it continue.
Al

Synergy. I think thats what its called. When you play or sing in a session for the purpose of others joining in and 2 and 2 makes 5. You can't beat it.

Hope to see a lot of old friends at Sandwich, Broadstairs and Faversham in the next few weeks for exactly that.
FloraG.

Yes , I love it all !! But --it's a bugger trying to find a girlfriend / partner / wife ,whatever, who feels the same way about the music and the lifestyle !! But one lives in hope !

"yes bubbly old fruit, it is a constant battle of wills!"

Not in this house! The only tension is that it is my hobby and the wife's job!

If you find your girlfriend/boyfriend/whatever in the folk world to start with that problem goes away - to be replaced by the problem of competition from all the other like-minded potential boyfriends/girlfriends/whatevers that your girlfriend/boyfriend/whatever will meet while you are enjoying yourselves together.

Hi Flora, what have you arranged for the Hop Festival? The folk club considered an extra singaround that week on the Friday night but it proved unfeasible due to music booked for downstairs at the Chimney Boy.

Have made good friends thru music and hope to come away from Sidmouth with others.
Wife and I still making and evolving our music after 25 years! - no conflict, its easy, give mutual space and encouragement. That made me feel involved in her success. I sat in dark B&Bs with small children while my wife performed at festivals, she stayed home 6 years with small children while I careered forward - job done!

"yup Paulo, deffo argument who does the babysitting!"

There is no argument......I just do as I'm told!

Seriously, if it's local, I generally go with her and add a bit of banjo interference (if the fee covers babysitting and petrol + a bit!). Otherwise I try to get out to play one night a week at local informal things.

I'm looking forward to Hardraw Gathering this weekend........ the kids are at their grandparents, so a convivial time should be had! Hopefully make some new friends and get drunk with old ones.

How are you anyway Pete.....any sign of you getting back out there? It would be great to catch up at some point.

Abdul on lap top - Earnie has organised the Bull for daytime sessions saturday and sunday at the Hop festival. The usual evening singaround will go on in the Crown and Anchor if it is still open ( each year I expect it to have closed but we have done it for so many years now it has become part of the tradition and we have had some of the best sing arounds ever there ). Look forward to seing you at one or both.
FloraG

Ps - god to see the club doing something for water aid with the dance in october.
