Subject: RE: State Waltzes From: Banjer Date: 26 Sep 99 - 03:32 PM I'm don't think there is a Florida Waltz...Probably just as well. It would have to be done in 8/4 time to keep up with the steps involved with stomping on roaches and dodging gators, not to mention the 'Red-kneed, camera-toting' tourist. Never understood why they call it tourist 'season' but they won't let ya hunt 'em...... |
Subject: RE: State Waltzes From: Wally Macnow Date: 26 Sep 99 - 05:05 PM In addition to Waltz Across Texas there is the Texas Waltz. |
Subject: RE: State Waltzes From: Barbara Shaw Date: 26 Sep 99 - 05:24 PM Thanks to everyone so far. "Beautiful Ohio" is indeed a waltz, as I found on this site with state songs for all 50 US states: http://www.50states.com/songs/ I also found Greg Brown's "Iowa Waltz" lyrics at: http://www.wing.net/gbrown/gbiowaw1.html and a clip of the song itself at: http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=496667615/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/ArtistID=BROWN*GREG/itemid=307650 I'd love to hear more. Couldn't find the Oklahoma or Texas Waltz. Anyone got midis? We sometimes do a medley of waltzes, and Alabama and Tennessee go well together. |
Subject: RE: State Waltzes From: folk1234 Date: 26 Sep 99 - 05:26 PM I'll check with the author re The Oklahoma Waltz. |

Subject: RE: State Waltzes From: Arkie Date: 08 Apr 08 - 10:41 AM I missed this the first time around. Louie Roy mentioned the Arkansas Waltz. I do not know if Cletus Jones' Arkansas Waltz is the same one he had in mind but Jones' Waltz is sort of the official state waltz. Arkansas legislators have a lot of time on their hands and so there are a lot of "state" things (waltz, dance, music instrument, rock, etc. We even have a state song, and state anthem, as well as a state waltz. I do not have the music handy, but Jones recorded the waltz twice on one album, with the Arkansas Waltz and the last chance to hear the Arkansas Waltz. He has waltzed around the state a bit promoting his state waltz and even found himself here in Mountain View on occasion. Here is a link to an Arkansas Times story on Jones and the Waltz.
