Subject: Goderich Damage From: GUEST,Christine Date: 22 Aug 11 - 09:48 AM Anyone know if the Livery survived yesterday's tornado? The damage to the city, and particularly the square looks horrific. Hope all our Celtic College and festival friends are safe. |
Subject: RE: Goderich Damage From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 22 Aug 11 - 10:03 AM Here's what happened: "Fallen trees and flipped-over cars litter the streets of Goderich, Ontario, where a devastating tornado ripped through the Lake Huron town on the weekend, leaving one man dead and dozens of buildings damaged or destroyed. It was the most powerful tornado to touch down in Ontario in more than a decade, as Environment Canada estimates winds blew through the community at speeds approaching 300 kilometres per hour." I'm very sorry to hear of it but know nothing further. |
Subject: RE: Goderich Damage From: JohnB Date: 22 Aug 11 - 05:57 PM Some pictures (actually a lot) here I believe Mooh is OK although I am not sure about his house. Don't Know about Black Walnut. The others (not Mudcatters) I know from the area are OK too, from the one's I have heard from. The fatality was a guy who worked at the Salt plant. The pictures tell the sad tale, the Tornado basically looks like it came off the lake and up West street, around the Square and ran out of steam, fortunately. MANY businesses destroyed in the process and TONS of firewood created in just minutes, clean up and rebuliding will take a long time. Goderich is a very sad sight at the moment. JohnB. |
