From: Azizi
Date: 05 Sep 11 - 08:11 AM

Greetings! This post serves as an announcement on Mudcat of my new blog:

Pancocojams

http://pancocojams.blogspot.com/

Pancocojams is an eclectic mix of information, comments, and videos about the histories, cultures, and customs of African Americans & other People of Color. The name "pancocojams" reflects this site's wide range of topics. The name "pancocojams" also reflects this blog's connection to my website cocojams

-snip-

Examples of posts that are featured on Pancocojams are:

The Original Meaning of The Song That Became "Sea Lion Woman"

**

Racial Attitudes In Caribbean Folk Songs

**

and

The Changing Meanings Of Being Sassy

Several of the posts that already have been added to Pancocojams refer to Mudcat Discussion Forum itself and/or to specific Mudcat threads or to a mudcat member or members. In my opinion, these references are basically favorably.

Pancocojams posts may also contain content that I posted on Mudcat

All non-troll comments are welcome on my Pancocojams blog and on this thread.

Best wishes,

Azizi Powell

I never read a post of yours that didn't educate, inform andor entertain. Congratulations to you.

I tried to post to Pancocojams and it didn't take. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks to all who comment on this thread.

Also, thanks to all who visit and/or comment on Pancocojams!

****

Here's how I've added comments to that blog:

1. Click on the title of the post you want to comment to

2. Go down to the Comments box underneath the post

3. There's a "Comment as" option underneath the comment box. You must choose how you want to comment.

I choose Name/URL. Two people who have posted to that blog said that they used their facebook url (addresses) by highlighting that, copying it and pasting it in that box that shows up.

There is also an anonymous option that doesn't need a url. Of course, if you post as anonymous, you can sign your tag name or real name at the end of that post.

4. Write your comment in the box

5. Preview if you choose to, and click submit.

Thanks to all those who have visited my Pancocojams blog. Special thanks to Bruce for adding a comment to a post on that blog.

My latest post is Bald Headed Women

That post includes comments about a fashion trend among a small number of African American women of voluntarily wearing their hair bald or very closely cropped to the scalp. That post also includes the lyrics of Bluesman Lightnin' Hopkins' song "Bald Headed Woman" and a YouTube video (a soundclip with photographs) of Lightnin Hopkins singing this song. Other videos featured on that post are one of Benin, West Africa vocalist Angelique Kidjo (who either wears her hair closely cropped or bald) and Nigeria, West African singer 2face Idibia whose video "African Women" includes a woman with a bald head.

Do you know other songs about bald headed women? If so, please share them on http://pancocojams.blogspot.com/ or on this thread.

Thanks again!

Here's the lyrics to a Bald Headed Woman song that was just sent to me:

I don't want no bald headed woman,
She too mean, lord, lordy well she too mean
I don't want no bald headed woman,
She too mean, lord, lordy well she too mean

I don't want no sugar in my coffee,
Make me mean lord, lordy well it make me mean
I don't want no sugar in my coffee,
Make me mean lord, lordy well it make me mean

I got a bulldog he weigh five hundred
In my back yard lord, lordy in my back yard
When he bark he call like thunder,
In my back yard well, lordy in my back yard

I don't want no cold iron shackles
'Round my legs, lord, lordy well a round my legs.
I don't want no cold iron shackles
'Round my legs, lord, lordy well a round my legs.

If you see my long haired woman,
Better bow your head, lord, lordy well a bow your head
If you see my long haired woman,
Better bow your head, lord, lordy well a bow your head

Trad. Chain Gang Song
Adapted and Arranged by: Harry Belafonte
Recorded by Harry Belafonte:
Recording date: 1960

Harry Belafonte-Bald Headed Woman

Thanks! I'll add it to that "PCJ" thread as you referred to it (Btw, I like that abbreviation!)
