It's that time of year again! Merek'n'Dary have got a wonderful line-up at Banbury Folk Festival from 7th - 9th October 2011. AND there'll be a MudGather *hurrah* AND they've reduced the price of their weekend tickets to only £50 plus camping. How about that for good value?

I'm going, who else?

I wish! Banbury was the first ever UK folk festival I had the pleasure of going to, and I had a great time. But it's not in the cards for this year, either, although I'd love to go again. I remember some great dancing, both the ceilidhs and Herbaceous Border (now Wild Thyme). Have a great time, everybody!

I'm going to bring the HMS Soak tankard to the mudgather before it makes it's journey to the RAF Museum (see HMS Soak thread) because the Mudcat made it possible. Without the Cat I would probably sent it to the RN Museum - WRONG place for it!

It's excellent value for money. I'm really glad that it's a festival at which, if I wasn't performing, I could afford to purchase a ticket.

Loxley are really looking forward to being there. American Dairy must be praised for all of their effort, I know how difficult it is.

Such a shame that Banbury Fest clashes with Derby, but I can think of lots of other wonderful Festival clashes through the year. Just can't do everything *sigh*

Mudgather (as far as I know) is programmed for Saturday 8th from 3.30 - 6pm in the Cross Pub, probably the Fine Lady Restaurant where we've been for a couple of years. Excellent venue!!!

The question is, shall we have chocolate?

"not for lovers of traditional music though" I dont think so myself.
Traditional mustc is there for those that find it!

The organisers actively promote venues in Banbury town and some are free!

Concidering the Artists booked , for money this festival caters for all compared to others.

Guest, you're so right that this IS a well organised event, I'm sure that Merek'n'Dary will appreciate the compliment!

And, yes, there will be traditional music around if you look for it, especially within the sessions, singarounds and acoustic concert spots. But you'll see from the mix of Artists that this is a Festival that caters for many tastes within the folk genre. Do give Banbury a try!

And talking of tastes, is anyone preparing anything chocolatey for the MudGather?

All things great and small!

Great….. The fabulous Jacqui McShee's PENTANGLE, ahab, Vin Garbutt, Isla St Clair, John Tams & Barry Coope, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan, Tom McConville Band and the powerful Tickled Pink at one of the 4 ceilidhs are there, with many, many, other great artists will be there.

Small now…….but young artists who are on the road to fame like Newcastle Folk Degree students Mellissa Whitehead & Andy Watt and Scott Hartley & Marit Falt or local rising star Luke May and his band will be playing on Friday evening. Those who do not like the big concerts and events there are lots of smaller, intimate venues with acoustic concerts, meet the artists sessions, sing a round's including a Big Sing with invited guests and the now 'famous' Sunday singing breakfast, storytelling and singing boat trips.

Good value for money! …. A full weekend for only £50! Day tickets for £18 (Friday evening/Sunday afternoon) £36 (Saturday All Day)    *Individual event tickets on the door subject to capacity in each venue.

Where to Stay? .... Indoor/outdoor camping (campers/caravans & tents) is available at only £15 for the weekend or £10 a night and there is plenty of B&B/Hotel accommodation in the town and surrounding area. There is plenty of parking in the vicinity if you just want to come for a day. Much more than in previous years with the Castle Quay North Car Park staying open until 11.30pm on Friday and Saturday evenings especially for the festival.

When does it start? ….. Tomorrow, Friday 7th October. Hurry and get your tickets now before it sells out! You can book on-line or with Debit/Credit card. For details see the website.

Where is it?    Well…. Banbury Folk Festival of course! Check out all the latest info on the Website www.banburyfolkfestival.co.uk or our Facebook page Banbury Folk Festival.

See you there!

Derek and Mary, Festival Organisers

Haven't done that in years ;-) We're on our way, but stuck in traffic right now at the exit to the A46 :-( A little way back we were treated to a most spectacular double rainbow! We're back now. Won't go into all the highlights - too many to mention quickly, but I think of this as the festival of the hugs. There was a very warm and welcoming feel all over. Loxley were great - we saw them today. Highly recommend them. Some other acts we caught and enjoyed were Jacqui McShee's Pentangle last night and James and Nancy's expanded foursome, the Melrose Quartet. I nearly missed seeing in the programme who they were, until Rob spotted it, and we were not disappointed - some lovely harmonies happening, and a great sound.

But really the things that really gladdened my heart the most were the little moments with people, and things coming together just right. For instance, on the way to the Melrose quartet concert, a voice behind me said "Hello Jenny" and it was Bob and Margaret Fagan, James's mum and dad, also great folk performers who I know really well from Australia. They were doing grandparent duties looking after Hamish and Harry. Both were sleeping peacefully at the time! The weekend was full of happy moments like that.

We were well fed, with that wonderful food from the Caribbean stall, and the all-day breakfasts at the golf club were very welcome.

We had trouble tearing ourselves away from a great singing session there on Friday night, which we heard later went on till the not-so small hours. We had other nice sings at other times, and spent some pleasant hours on Saturday afternoon stuffing ourselves with chocolate and meeting other Mudcatters at the Mudgather. Some we already knew, and some we had never met before.

THERE WILL BE PICTURES!

Well that will do for a start. Came home feeling all warm and fuzzy and we'll definitely be back!

Got home last night -eventually ! Managed to get totally lost coming off the roadworks section on the M1 and ended up going through them again an hour later !!!!! Must have been some serious recent changes to the roads recently as my SatNav didn't recognise most of the junctions in the area. Anyone want to buy a used TomTom ?

Lovely weekend despite the deluges on Friday. Enjoyed putting a few more faces to names to at the Mudgather (briliantly organised as usual Hils) and meeting up with the usual band of funsters. Great fun Saturday night at Drayton with the impromptu acoustic session and meeting some new faces, including one incredible 'lookalike'.

Huge Well Done and Thanks to Merek'n'Dary for another great festival, hopefully see you again next year -providing I don't get lost !!

Had a great time. Thanks again Derek and Mary.We were sorry to have to miss Maggie and Tony's Handfasting, but we hadn't really seen Kathryn at all over the weekend so went home to spend some time with her.It looks as though it was a lovely ceremony. They both looked so happy!

Request 4 pics of the Pagan Wedding.

I am putting a video together and clearer pics would be very useful. Slide show and all that. My video footage suffers from quality and dthe dark.

Tony knows I will be doing this, but I think they will be pleasantly surprised.

PM me or go to cresby.com
or tell me where on the web I can find them.

TIA
