OK, apart from the Bohemian, where's the craic for singers?

Refresh. Looks as if the Bohemian might be inside on the Saturday.

I notice with some concern that all of the participative events in the programme are stated to be "playaround" not "singaround" or "mixed session. I do hope songs are not going to be prevented.

The info that I saw indicated more singarounds than playarounds. (Mind you, the idea of playing around sounds quite appealing! :) )

Wevva predictions much improved.

Owing to absence of dogsitter Thursday (he has a gig - Spider Byte - at the Rock Avenue Club Gillingham, Kent - NOT folk) I will arrive at Deal (well, Finglesham) some time Friday.

Apparently, the singarounds will be at The Berry, Walmer end of Deal. Good selection of real ales, and it's where the Barden will be.

I shall tax that Barden on this subject. The info seems to vary from the programme, which merely has Deal Folk Club there (with booked people) under the watchful eye of Avril at certain times.

Looking at wevva for Sat, inside might be better than the garden of the Bohemian!

Must re-set that cookie.

I had a lovely time - The Barden of England was a totally bad influence on Friday (but the pub and camping facilities lovely and the food excellent, and even the wine not too bad), I had a nice snooze through the boring tunes on Sat AM (although the first two pints of beer in the Ship were the worst I have ever tasted in my entire life) and gradually the singers came in, then a fish& chip workshop then a playaround that was more of a singaround in the Deal Hoy and we nearly tamed the feral indigenous population.

My weekend started in the RMA with the excellent Tim Laycock and floor singers. It was nice to be back in the Ship for the final Sunday night session, but the Deal Hoy is a very congenial venue and bigger so I hope more use will be made of it in the future. We came into Roger Resch's Saturday evening session there a little late, and the landlady personally carried two chairs through for us!

I found it hard to sing in the Green Berry from the corner of the L-shaped bar, but this improved on the Sunday when John Barden relocated the centre of the singaround to further down the side. The Bohemian looked pretty deserted when I passed it so I think they missed out. My greatest surprise was finding myself in an abandoned hotel on the Monday morning, but that is another story...

I'm very pleased the festival has survived so, from a passenger, thanks to all the crew.

We spent about 7 hours in The Green Berry on Sunday. The Dark Star was lovely, and , even though I paced myself, was quite light headed after just a pint and a half ! The cup of tea was very welcome. We arrived, expecting a singaround, and found the Stuart Pendrill band playing. Once they had finished , John started the singaround, from the window seat. It wasn't long before he'd relocated to our table, as Stormalong says, was further down, and on the quieter side of the bar. Once the lunchtime regulars departed, the remaining locals seemed to appreciate our efforts . We tried to keep the singaround going between sessions. John's finished at 5 , and Eggibred's started at 6.00 . It appeared that everyone wanted a break.
