How very odd, I don't have any problems at all with i-Tunes, certainly nothing like taking my computer over!
Oh well, c'est la vie, n'est-ce pas?

Enjoy, Charlie.

What a w****r ! I did a little checking and there is a fairly helpful troubleshooting Windows website which mentions formats. I clicked on this on WMP to find that 'forces unknown' had changed the Rip format to WMA.
A click if the mouse and I'm back in business. Now I can walk around listening to Bruce AND other artists.
Thank you all so much for your attention and advice.
Leveller, I agree about I-tunes, they seem to crop up all the time.
Thanks again
Charlie.

The players I've used (Sony Walkman and Nokia Music Express) are recognised by Windows Media Player when you plug them in. All you have to do then is rip the CD, drag it (probably from library) into the right hand sync box and press start sync.

Personally, unless you have an i-device, I'd avoid iTunes like the plague - it wants to take over everything on your computer.

For conversion you can also use SUPER@, which can convert between many formats. This should be a direct link for a download of the free version setup program SUPER@.

Charlie, rip the CDs using i-Tunes. If you have a Shuffle, you must have i-Tunes? Then just copy them as normal to your shuffle or MP3 player via i-Tunes.

I do it all the time - simples!

I avoid WMP like the plague - it's The Spawn Of The IT-Devil.

Try Switch Sound File Converter . I have the free version but you can upgrade for a small upcharge.

Charlie,

Have you used your mp3 device for recording? You should be able to make the recording (they can be surprisingly good for little pinhole mics) and edit it in Windows Media Player then put it back in your device. I've done that a couple of times when I recorded master classes my son participated in. The audio-only recordings are much easier to do than putting the video end of things into the player, but I also have files I filmed on my small digital camera that I will edit and put in the player. I'll report back.

What kind of mp3 player? Does it have mp4 (video) listed as something it will play? You can go to the manufacturer's site and look up your device to find what it can play, and some of them, like Sansa, have a converter to use to make files work with their device.

This said, my Sony is supposed to play videos but it doesn't like most of the ones I've tried so far via my Win7 setup and using Windows Media Player. I have iTunes in the computer but haven't used it except to see how much some things might cost if I have to buy them because I can't find them at NetFlix or YouTube.

All I wanna do is put some CDs onto my computer Windows 7) and transfer then to my Shuffle or MP3 player.
All that happens at the moment is that a sign in WMP comes up saying that they can't do anything with the WMA file.
Please enlighten me, Somebody.
I don't care what a berk I seem to be, I just want to be able to listen to stuff as I'm out walking.
Thank you in anticipation
