Big Birthday Bash Page 18th-20th November 2011

Celebrating 4 years of live, acoustic music in Kirkby Fleetham we have a full weekend of stellar music and events:

Friday 18th (7.00pm)

Will be array an of local and not quite so local talent with a mixture of extended floorspots and a couple of feature artists supporting the very busy & very talented Gerry McNeice. Floorspots from- Trev Reid, Mic & Susie Darling, David Swann & Pete Gosteloe. Featured artists are A Giants Cause (Andy Broderick won the KFFC traditional singing competition a couple years, we’ve been promising him a gig ever since!) and Fay Brotherhood who is causing quite a stir in her East Midland home area.

Tickets are a recession busting £5.
Saturday 19th

The Saturday evening concert ( 7.00pm) will feature some of Kirkby Fleetham’s favourite acts namely headliners The Young’uns and the outrageously talented Zoox, neither of these acts should need much introduction! Mixing somewhat avant garde presentation with deeply traditional songs will be the combined talents of Rapunzel & Sedayne…… who I’ve seen and thoroughly enjoyed in their adopted hometown of Fleetwood. M.C.ing the evening as well as performing the opening slot is your friend and mine, Hamish Curry.

This stellar line-up is yours for a snip at £12. I suggest you book early.

From 11.30 am on Saturday we’ll be singingaround, interrupted only by The Kirkby Fleetham Traditional Singing Competition and The Kirkby Fleetham Songwriting Competition. The last couple of hours of the singaround will be dedicated to traditional ballads and led by Sedayne & Rapunzel. (Daytime events are available to non-concert ticket holders at £2.50 each.)
Sunday 20th

OK, I confess, I’ve booked 2 of MY favourite acts â€" the far too talented Walsh & Pound and the ever harmonious Hissyfit.
Dan Walsh & Will Pound are, respectively the best clawhammer banjo player in the country and the most highly rated harmonica player in the country (IMHO of course). Dan needs no introduction to the Kirkby Fleetham audience having played for us several times before with Kat Davidson. Will spends his time appearing on Saturday night T.V. (Goldie’s Band, by Royal appointment) and playing with the likes of Martin Simpson………

Hissyfit sing gorgeous harmonies, unaccompanied, great songs and fab! Sunday tickets are available at £8.

Hissyfit will also be running a singaround prior(from 11.30 a.m) to the Sunday afternoon concert (2.00pm).
All Weekend

Weekend tickets are a bargain £23. Kids under 17 are free for all events.

As always there will be a real ale bar, real home cooked food and plenty of room for camper vans and caravans (free) and indoor camping available (£5 per night). Stylish accommodation available The Black Horse, Kirkby Fleetham (just across The Green from The Village Hall) £70 per room per night.

Tickets here! or call or email me (contacts on website) if you don't want to buy on-line.

Paul

We're a straight ahead husband & wife folk'n'fun group, Paul; deeply traditional maybe, but not in the slightest bit avant-garde - unless being deeply traditional is seen as being avant-garde in the folk world these days? Anyhoo: check Ian Anderson's review of the new album in fRoots:

http://www.frootsmag.com/content/issue/reviews/

Needless to say we'll have copies with us at £10 a pop; exceptional value for money for this super deluxe triple-gatefold edition from Folk Police Records manufactured to the highest standards of perfect exquisiteness throughout. There's a track (True Thomas) on the fRoots Radio October podcast:

http://www.frootsmag.com/radio/playlists/11/10/

And another (one of our more old-timely Transatlantic field-hollers mistaken here on Mudcat for a genuine Kipling: Bellamy song!) on the September one...

And (last but not least) you can hear us on the This Is Us Mudcat CD...

Brilliant weekend. As always, the Arrowsmiths put on a top class weekend. So many highlights... The Young 'Uns, Hissyfit and Dan Walsh & Will Pound being the obvious stand-outs. But the whole show was fab. Great singarounds, fantastic food... sensible prices... varied and talented acts. Super entertainment from start to finish.
