Subject: Win a Death Discs Double CD From: GUEST,Paul Slade Date: 17 Sep 11 - 05:18 AM PlanetSlade has five copies of Chrome Dreams' new double compilation CD Music to Die For: Death Discs 1914-1960 to give away as competition prizes. The discs include many of the key recordings discussed on the site, including Lena Horne's Frankie & Johnny, The Louvin Brothers' Knoxville Girl and Lloyd Price's Stagger Lee. It's an excellent place to start your own murder ballads collection, and you can enter the competion here. |

Subject: RE: Win a Death Discs Double CD From: GUEST,Paul Slade Date: 17 Sep 11 - 06:56 AM Your privilege of course, and I suppose I can't blame you for being sceptical. Just for the record, though, PlanetSlade is purely a hobby site, which raises no income for me or anyone else. It's entirely free for readers, and exists only to run some essays of mine which Mudcatters and other folk or blues fans may find interesting. Far from raking in the cash, it actually costs me money to run the site, but I do so for the fun of writing it and contacting people who share my interests. The "here" link above simply takes you to the relevant page on PlanetSlade itself, which contains nothing sinister. I won't pass entrants' e-mail addresses to anyone else (not even Chrome Dreams), but I may use them for future mailings from PlanetSlade itself. These are very short e-mails, telling people on my list when the site has a new essay up on-line, and contain no commercial element whatsover. I send out no more than five or six of these every year, so they're not a heavy burden on anyone's in-box. I've included a note at the bottom of every entry form for this (and every other) competition reminding people that they can opt out of PlanetSlade mailings if they wish, and every mailing I send out has that note on the bottom too. So far, no-one's chosen to take advantage of it, which suggests any nuisance I'm causing is pretty minimal. As I said, I don't blame you for being sceptical, but the only idea here is to tempt a few extra people into giving PlanetSlade a try and add a fun little extra element to the site. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to explain all this. |

Subject: RE: PlanetSlade: Win a Death Discs Double CD From: BTNG Date: 01 Nov 11 - 02:07 PM Fantastic website Mr Slade, especially the Secret London section. You might be interested in Peter Ackroyds latest missive, London Under, he explores much that is "secret" London. and this, one of my favourite books: London's Secret History Peter Bushell Constable & Co. London 1983. |
Subject: RE: PlanetSlade: Win a Death Discs Double CD From: GUEST,Paul Slade Date: 01 Nov 11 - 05:38 PM Joe Offer was indeed one of our five winners, Spleen. Congratulations also to Seth Forstater, Lowell McManus, Maggi Vesey and Emily Jorrey. And thanks for the kind words, BTNG. I'm a massive Peter Ackroyd fan myself, though he produces books so fast I can never quite keep up with the buggers. I'd add London Under to my wants list, along with the Peter Bushell volume you mention. Glad you're enjoying the site. |
