Something that works for me for longer posts or posts for which I've had to flit hither and you on the internet:

1) Type the post
2) Copy it
3) Right click and reload the Mudcat page the post will go on
4) Paste the post onto Mudcat
5) Submit

If this is happening in cycles for Janie, I'm wondering if it might be related to having too much stuff in her browser cache. I know my cache gives me fits on scripts sometimes, and then everything works fine once I empty the cache.

You may be seeing a problem that I encounter fairly often when it takes me a longer than usual while to compose a post. The connection that loads the page you're posting to can "time out" so that when you hit the Submit button a whole new "negotiation" is required to get a working connection, and sometimes a clinker gets in the gears and you go back to the front page without getting the post submitted.

I've suspected that the "return to front page" executes before the "post" when a refresh of the connection happens, and the post is lost before it can be sent; but that's just speculation (having a vaguely possible answer minimizes the compulsion to find out what really goes on).

If you use the back button, the page you see is probably loaded from the memory on your own machine, so that page still doesn't have a "live connection" to the cat, and if you hit the Submit button from there a refresh is still needed (again) and the same clinker appears.

Copying your post in the Reply box, and refreshing the connection, then pasting the post back and immediately posting it nearly always seems to work. Going back to the front page and reopening the thread does the same thing. (Note that any refresh will erase what you've typed in the reply box, since you type on a page that's in your computer's memory and the refresh gets a new copy from the 'cat, so you do need to copy your post before refreshing, and paste it back to send it.)

The surest way to avoid drops would seem to be to compose the post in your word processor, and refresh the thread immediately before pasting the post into the Reply box, then sending the post immediately - although I can't really guarantee that even that always works. Since you only see failures at infrequent and apparently random times, it's simpler overall just to type in the reply box, click Back and copy if the post fails, and retry the post (after refreshing the page if needed) - if you make a practice of immediately verifying whether your post went through so that you know when to do it.

John

I've seen the same thing. I try to remember to select all and copy before I click "submit message" so I have it if I need to refresh the page or go back to the top and open the thread again. The second time it takes.

The last few days have again been having problems with posts taking when I hit submit. After a couple of attempts with hitting the back button and then resubmitting, I copy, open a new window, go to Mudcat, open the thread, paste, and submit in the new window. And it takes.

This seems to happens in spells or episodes, as many have said in this town before. Just saying, in case it helps to identify the essential glitch that periodically occurs.
