I'm sad to report that Jim Bassett, of Padstow, Cornwall, died yesterday. Jim was a blazing enthusiast for our music, and a fine, vigorous singer. He liked nothing better than to be in a crowd of singing people. Jim started several folk clubs where there had been none before, with his own zest for life and music as the driving force. A folk columnist once wrote him up as 'Jim and Enthusiasm.'The UK folk scene has lost a golden asset, and I have lost a dear friend.

May I, on behalf of the band, send our condolences to Jim`s family on his passing. We, through our connections with members of the Cornish singing community, had the pleasure of knowing Jim for many years and will remember him fondly.

More sad news. Only met him twice (through Keith and Sylvia I seem to recall), but what a lovely, devoted and kind man, and an excellent singer.

I knew Jim back in 1974, when he was involved in the trad music club in Bromley Kent,he was a really positive,enthusiastic organiser. RIP JIM, my condolences to his family.Dick Miles

It was Jim that brought me to Bodmin in 2005 and we communicated quite a bit. I am so sad at this news. His enthusiasm and passion for the music was evident in everything he did.

I knew Jim when I stayed in Padstow many years ago.

I remember when he was in Harlow. In fact the first time I came here was when I was booked as part of Oxford Heritage, for a visit to the club he was running at the Essex Skipper here. Goodbye Jim...

Such sad news - a true folk enthusiast, because of distance I only managed to meet once,

My sympathy is with his family and friends - I'm sure he will be given a royal send-off.

I'm sorry his time has come as he has always supported the music of us Ryburn lot and fired us with his enthusiasms. We'll miss him.
